Pregnancy Community Chat Forum - Anyone Have a Take On This ?

So everytime i read in the pregnancy forums a young girl asking if she could be pregnant i feel bad for them but i also just wanna smack upside the head and tell them to be smarter then that. i mean 8 out of 10 of my friends have babies now and weve only been out of school for two years but 5 of those girls got pregnant during high school one even in 9th grade. i love them but i also remember how hard it was for them while they were in high school and a couple dropped out. anyways i feel the need to rant about the state of florida's abstinence curriculum.

i have to say that in some of these young girls defense but not an excuse these girls today arent at all informed about pregnancy or their periods. they are also reading these celeb mags and all this baby craze is glamourizing having children when in reality a celeb having a baby is totally different then a normal person (i.e. they have the option of a nanny and still have a life and duh their super rich!) i think honestly that all these girls arent gettin enough information in their sex ed class. i know they tell you three things. Use protection, they semi inform you on std's and then they tell you but ultimatly abstinence is just the best way. this isnt informing these girls about their periods or pregnancy..i have 20 yrs old and still remember my sex ed class very vividly and my teacher was the football couch who really couldnt give a damn about what he was teaching. we took maybe a whole day on womens periods and all they are really allowed to say is well if you think your pregnant then go to planned parenthood lol..but not even really that. idk what i can do but i wish there was something i could do about the curriculum because these girls really need to be informed and maybe even scared out of being stupid and not wrapping it up.

as much as I agre with what your saying about them briefing sexual education in school I think it is the parents responsibility to talk to their children about things like this.the parents need to explain everything,talk about girl and boy bits and condoms and std's a such.

see i think if they just had a consent form for the parents to sign then it would be better for the teachers to teach lol..you have to also realize..some parents arent the best of resorces to learn about sex,stds and pregnancy. teachers have and know how to get ahold of so many resorces. but i do see your point too and if some parents think they can do a better job then thats great, i just dont think parents are envolved enough in their kids sex lives that they are in denial of.

ya we both can agree on that. when i read all these post these young girls are making and they all just seem so uneducated. kudos to your parents for utilizing the resources they have! my mom took me into the bathroom when i was 11 and layed it all on me lol. but when i started having sex instead of her knowing that no matter what i was going to have sex she just "forbid" it instead of helping me get condoms and BC (it never stopped me though lol)..im not saying to condone sexual activity for 16 yr olds but theyre going to have sex so instead of forbiding it or telling them abstinence is the only way..help them learn to prevent std and pregnancy. and if they choose not to then consequences for their actions. alot of them just think oh ill just get pregnant and have an abortion or give it up for adoption or even yay ill have a baby but they dont realize whats going to happen. or with std's they just "dont think it will happen to them".

I think parents should take on more responsibility in that area but I also think if you're concerned about it you can always lobby the school board in your area to do more when it comes to sex-ed. People who oppose it can always opt out if they want to. The thing is it's not just a nuts and bolts issue, there are values involved and those are up to the parents and family to instill in a child and not just girls but boys because they are half of the equation. We need to start teaching young men to be more involved and more responsible in this area as well.

I agree about the boys as well i just think that when it gets down to it, its us women who have to go through pregnancy. but definatly with the std's. but i understand that some people have religious views and its too bad that some people think that because of their religion and beliefs they just tell their kids to not have sex without addressing the problem. but ya ill look into lobbying my school board. although florida is a "republican" state and most of republicans beleive abstinence only curriculum is the way to go. so it'll be tough.

I agree that parents should take a more active role in educating their kids about sex. My parents did not talk to me about it at all. Everything I learned, was what was briefly taught in school and then just 'learning as you go.' When the time comes, I will make sure my child(ren) hear things from me or my husband. I want them to be better educated about it than I was. I want them to understand the risks that come along with sex. It may be an uncomfortable topic to talk about with your kids, but it's best they hear from you and not someone else; or no one at all.
