Q: Hysterectomy- Need Pre And Post Op Information

I am scheduled for a full hysterectomy. I have no idea what to do before and what to expect after. My bedroom is upstairs, I don't know if I will be able to climb stairs. Is there weight gain? How long before being able to go out somewhere or drive?
Are there things i should be sure to take care of before surgery?
If anyone can help with information it would really be appreciated. I can't afford to purchase the book that most people are recommending.
Thanks to all

Depends On the Type of Surgery
I had a total Hysterectomy (Uterus and Cervix) 2 Weeks ago. It was taken out vaginally so I was sent home the next day.
I will tell you this. TAKE A BATH. I am restricted to just showers for at least 6 weeks to allow the sutures to heal and dissolve on their own.
I also installed a handheld shower head so that I can still sit on the side of the tub on inside of it on a chair and still bathe. I am a plus size woman so it took me a couple of days to get my strength back. If you can help it: Don't stay in the bed too much. Move around the room or sit in a chair. You will learn your limits as you go. Each person is different. I did not want to take my pain meds at first but I soon learned that I needed them. I take 600 Mg Motrin and Vicodin alternating every 4 hours. After a week I began to space them out to every 6 hours.

For the first week:
WALK UNTIL YOU GET TIRED!!! If you go shopping use a SCOOTER. Yes you will draw attention but you will save yourself the pain later.
LEARN TO ACCEPT HELP! Do not try climbing any ladders. Stairs are ok but take it slow.
GAS HURTS!!! Take MILK OF MAGNESIA at night before bed. Avoid spicy food and things that swell like tortillas. I also installed a grab bar by my toilet because the pain was awful the first couple of times I had a bowel movement. I could feel my bowels as the food passed through them. It eventually went away when I learned what I could and shouldn't eat.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR DOUBTS CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!!!!!!
TRUST YOUR GUT INSTINCT.
EVERYONE'S RECOVERY IS DIFFERENT.
Spotting is natural. I still have my ovaries so I have some cramping occasionally.
Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to email me at [removed - please do not post personal contact info]
