Granted....but some on here appear to be rather upset with wgc's right to free speech. I am not....but when abortion is the issue....I think that there needs to be a distinction in the fact that pro-life is not merely a religious issue. There are many agnostics...atheists, etc who are pro-life....and religion never enters into their reasoning. I think rather than looking at pro-life issues as religious issues....they need to be looked at as human issues.

As far as I am concerned though....wgc can speak of God and religion all he/she wants to....but in a debate about abortion.....using religion as a defense for ones beliefs often falls on deaf ears.

They didn't like John the baptist either.

True...but John the Baptist also knew....that sometimes you speak....and sometimes you let your actions speak for you. At times....doing and not saying....actually speaks volumes.

Show me the scripture where John the Baptist said this. It doesn't!
If you had studied his word you would know that.

Rev 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
Rev 22:19 And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

If you read Gods word you will know his will!

Show me....where I said John the Baptist said anything. What I am saying is.....actions speak louder than words. You are very good at spouting scripture....but what exactly do you do(besides quoting scripture)to spread Gods word? Are you active in charities or the pro-life movement...or do you just "tell" people what God wants?

I prefer his way. Here Is what the word says.
Mt 6:1 “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Mt 6:2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
Mt 6:3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Mt 6:4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Yet there is time for all to repent

In other words....you quote God's word...but you don't live it. That is a pretty hypocritical stand to take....but far be it for "me" to tell "you" how to live. Again....IMHO.....actions speak louder than words.

I guess we ladies are exempt from all these rules, since "the word" uses only the masculine. Phew! Wink

I can't believe wgc is quoting old testament scripture at us. That stuff is seriously whacked out.

Lev 20: And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

Dangit! Forgot to tell him Aunt Flo was here, and she is a nasty old woman to be ashamed of!

Deut 24: Suppose a man enters into marriage with a woman, but she does not please him because he finds something objectionable about her, and so he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; she then leaves his house and goes off to become another man’s wife.

Watch out, ladies, he can dump you for being "objectionable" but you've got no recourse if the guy doesn't shower, beats you up because the maize is the wrong consistentcy, has a limp dick, etc.

Lev 12: Speak to the people of Israel, saying: If a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be ceremonially unclean seven days; as at the time of her menstruation, she shall be unclean. Her time of blood purification shall be thirty-three days; she shall not touch any holy thing, or come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purification are completed. If she bears a female child, she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation; her time of blood purification shall be sixty-six days.

Birth is a shameful act, women. Don't touch nuthin' "holy". I wonder what happens if she does?

I suppose all of the above examples either "don't count" or are "translated wrong" and can't be taken at face value while selected other passages can. Laughing

It's just a big laugh riot.

Hey, has anyone ever read "Memnoch the Devil" by Anne Rice? It's part of her Vampire Chronicles series. It's pretty good, I just finished it up today.

True christians don't try to twist others words in order to back up their own. I don't feel Gods word to be hypocritical at all....you on the other hand appear to be quite hypocritical. As far as my good works go....they are not mine....they are the works of many....and as far as speaking of them....I was educating on what the pro-life groups in my area do. There are many that do far more than I do....and honor or praise is not important to me. Letting people know what services pro-life offers...."that" is important. I however....am not. You though seem to be "tooting" your own "trumpet" right and left about how well you know Christ. Quoting the bible does not mean you know what God wants....it simply means that you can read, copy, and paste. Again....actions speak louder than words...and my actions are trying to educate on abortion and pro-life. (Which co-incidentally....this is an abortion debate board....not a religious one). Other than telling us that you can read the bible...and quote it verbatim....what are your actions saying about you?

Now...back to Our Regularly Scheduled Thread...
If you knew that your only choices in candidates were people who were adamantly pc and who would do anything they could to further abortion rights....would you abstain from voting or vote for the "best" of the two?

Wrong Christians know his word & will.
Gods work is the number one goal of true Christians.

If we read Gods word we know that.
Mk 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ This is even a greater command than the 10 commandments

I am sure you don't want Christians here at least until election time.
I am sorry you don't know his word, If I have hurt your feeling I apologize to you.

First: I read and loooooved memnoch the devil Very Happy Probably her greatest work imo.

Secondly... the old scripture stuff makes me laugh for several reasons.

First, this person (a woman I bet) is clearly christian, not jewish, so absolutely nothing in the old testament in regards to god's covenant and his rules set out to man count. None of it counts. That's because in the new testament, jesus wiped the slate clean. I've been told this by christians themselves. So okay, cool. I can live with that.

But then... they can quote the old testament any time they want and say it does count, but only when they want it to! if I tried to quote the old testament to defend something, they'd say "that's old testament, it doesn't count!!!"

hell, I could quote some of th enew testament, but because I'm not christian, I can't possibly have the reading level capable of understanding a single phrase of the bible.

many christians have different interpretations of the bible. That's why there is so many different christian denomitations. Each denomination has their own interpretations. So you can read the bible have your own interpration and make your own denomination. You don't have to be christian to understand the bible. You should have common sense and think that whoever tells you that it's not saying the thruth. Some scriptures on the bible are straight forward to understand, others require understanding of the life of the author and understanding of the culture of the time. For example when you read in the bible about the prostitute who went to look for water in the well and jesus talked to her. The bible won't tell you at the time the women would go pick up the water in the well at certain hours and they would meet to gossip so the prostitute went to a different hour so nobody sees her. This is just an example but do you see my point? Some passages you have to know the history. This has nothing to do with being christian. As long as you know what was going on you can interpret correctly.

I would love to believe that. There are many wonderful things that the bible has to teach, as I think I have said many times in the past. Jesus was a great man and I can't stress enough my respect for him and what he did.

I took a class the delved pretty deeply into ancient texts, and of course one of them we studied was the bible, though we actually got to read translated parts of the koran which was really cool.

The bible has a lot of fluff, but it has a lot of good advice too. However, just as christians pick and choose, I too pick and choose. Even that wcg person picks and chooses I'm sure of.

However, despite my respect for the bible as a work of fictional and instructive literature (like aesop's fables or the lessons laught in the illiad and oddessey) I do not think it is appropriate to bring it into a debate that I consider scientific, which is why I get angry when people do it here. It makes me think that they have no real-world reason to be against abortion. I also get frustrated about the old testament thing, and being told that my interpretations are wrong.

I think there are lessons in the bible for everyone no matter what their beliefs.

I agree with you totally about bringing religion into the abortion debate. Fighting to save human lives(regardless of stage of life) is not about religion...it is about humanity. The bible and religion are not the reasons I do what I do...they merely back my reasons up.

That's part of the problem. My religion does not back up my desicion to be pro-choice... My views on abortion are purely intellectual.
