Q: Help: Dilemma- Doctors Want Me On Ssri's

I cant reveal too much about me because my doctor is internet and computer savy. He may be lurking (sorry for the paranoia) Very Happy .

I will try to brief. I have general anxiety which I and a few experts agree is a result of a particular medical condition. These experts carry no weight with my doctors though. Unfortunately, my main condition which I feel is causing the anxiety itself is not new but little is known about it. Suffice to say, there are only about 50 people world wide that know enough about it. Because there is a lack of "overwhelming data" to support the fact that this condition is causing my anxiety, an independent psychiatrist paid by my employer and also my family GP feel that I need to go on Lexapro. I have tried other Serotonin drugs and they all have had nasty side effects. My doctor tells me Lexapro does too, but they will go away in time.

My belief is that if we/me can get my other medical issue under control followed by CBT, I will be better but I will need rest, a lot of rest, at least 12 months worth.

I am currently away from work because of my inability to focus and concentrate and other problems due to my main illness and anxiety. My job requires a great deal of attention to detail.

My dilemma is that if I dont take the meds my doctors prescribe, they will not support my claim for short term disability (time away from work until I find an effective treatment to my main problem); however, my doctor feels that my main problem is actually secondary. I completely disagree.

Please don't ask me to change doctors because that's not really possible. Where I am, it's like you should be greatful you have a family doctor because they are hard to come by.

Any suggestions?

Thank you
