I know birth control is supposed to clear acne, but I've taken two kinds of oral contraceptives and they make me break out like crazy. What can I do?

Yes it's true, bc pills can help with acne...in some cases. In other cases, like your's, they can make it worse. Just like they help some ppl to loose weight, but cause others to gain it. I'm not sure what it tell you. If you really feel you need to be on "the pill" then it's your choice to continue using them. But if it is really bad then you may want to stop. I would start trying out different facial products. Get a good cleanser and moisterizer to help stop the break outs from getting out of control. Hope this helps... Very Happy

what types of bc were u on? some do help while others done, they affect each person differently as well, i am on loestrin 28 and breaking out like crazy i hate it, but when i was on estrostep before it cleared my face up really good but they dont offer that here. they always recommend u take it 3 mths before switching so if u still dont like what its doing u can always change to a different type. Are you taking alo dose pill or not? My estrostep wasnt a lo dose pill and the one im on now is and my acne still sucks. u might have to play around with the pills and figure out wich is best for u, but like i said most drs would reccomment trying it for at least 3 mths to get the full affects.

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and now Seasonique, I am under the impression they are both low estrogen pills.

I started taking bc pills because of my horrible cystic acne. Originally the dermatologist wanted me to start taking Accutane as none of the antibiotics seemed to work but in order to start Accutane, I needed to be on bc pills. Turned out the bc pills (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo) seemed to work wonders by itself, so luckily I never had to take Accutane. A few years later though, I started breaking out really bad again so now I'm on Yasmin and its working pretty well. However I noticed in the Spring and Summer months I start to break out (like right now!) But for me the bc pills are the only thing that is helping keep my acne under control. I guess it all depends on the person.
