I am going to be posting a new version of my diet in the next few days. There are plenty of things for you to eat to correct your problem, sadly those bars are probably not one of them.

Hello,

I am no expert, and every person is different. However, my doctor gave me a few guidelines which helped me a lot. Maybe they will help you, too.

Instead of obsessing about so much about carbs (except refined ones), obsess instead about portions and the frequency you eat.

Eat tiny portions very frequently. The example he gave was a bagel for breakfast: Instead of eating a full bagel and then eating somethng else in two hours, cut the bagel in 4, and eat a quarter of it every half-hour. It will take two hour to eat breakfast, but the blood sugar wont spike.

Always eat protein with carbohydrates. So put (unsweetened) peanut butter on that bagel!

I hardly eat meals now. I eat a small "meal" at dinner, but during the day I "graze". I hate to cook, which compounds the 'meal" issue. Some good grazing foods I have found that are high-protein:

edamame and other soy products (if you can tolerate soy)

A few whole-wheat crackers with peanut butter

Buy some good quality burgers (100% beef or turkey) and cook them. They can be stored in the fridge to heat and serve with some veggies.

Raw vegtables are excellent keep on hand to snack on. If I was creative, I could probably make a great high-protein tofu dip for them, but I'm not.

Hard-boiled eggs. Keep a few in the fridge.

I hope this helps.

You should not be eating bagels or peanuts at first, that was a bad suggestion. You must obsess about carbs initially, because your pancreas must be retrained and then slowly built up to withstand higher loads of carbs. Do it all at once with white bread crap bagels and you'll be in a very delicate balance that can be easily ruined, I know that from experience. It's silly to be eating a bagel in four pieces anyway, not sure why that was suggested. What are you supposed to do, eat every fifteen minutes the rest of your life? You should be eating around every two hours, eating balanced out meals based on your particular plan (protein intake and carbohydrate intake especially). Be careful of soy, our bodies are not meant to eat large amounts of it because we lack the enzyme required to digest the high phytic acid content. Eat too much of it and slowly your body will drain it's nutrient and vitamin reserves to attach to the phytic acid molecules so it can pass through your system. This is why vegetarians that eat heavy soy diets look like hell.

What stan said is right. And I was surprised to hear him mention the soy problem. I just about shut my thyroid down eating soy everyday for a year. Trying to ward off hotflashes. I think soy is a multi billion dollar health scam.

It wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure it's not a scam, per se, just a big business. See, the problem is that vegetarians, or someone at some point, said hey, there's this stuff asians eat that has protein! I wonder if that can replace meat! What they failed to pay attention to was that many countries, like China, use it mainly as a condinment to add bulk to a meal, NOT as a main course. I got sick eating it.
