Q: Scared... Amenorrhea... Help Please Several Questions

For years I've mentioned to the OB when I'd go in that I hadn't had a period in years, they'd ask why, I'd say I didn't know, I thought it might be the birth control pills, and they would say nothing.

I was on ortho-novum 35 for about 16 years then microgestin the last 2.

No period in YEARS, at least 7.

Thought the doctors would tell me it was a problem, so I didn't worry about it.

And I've read various things on the internet that birth control pills can cause amenorrhea, plus the BC hand outs ay period can skip, another reason why I didn't worry about it.

One Dr. last year had me take a blood test, she said if it came out fine it was probably the pill.

I even told my new OB about it, after being off the pill for 9 weeks and still no period. He just told me last week that it's not normal, should have been getting some periods, at least light ones.

SO now they gave me progesterone to try to induce bleeding.

2X since I stopped my pills my breasts got sore, and I had cramps. no bleeding.

So... I need to know

#1 can amenorrhea happen or not from prolonged use (18 years) on the birth control pills I was on? Stopped getting periods after around 9-11 years.

*2 Is it true that women sometimes have amenorrhea coming off of the pill?

#3 did my soreness and cramps mean anything?

#4 I had a painful simple cyst (5CM diameter) they did an ultrasound for a while ago. No mention of anything else going on in my ovaries, though now I don't trust them to have said anything. Would this indicate other fertility problems?

#3 what does this mean? I am terrified this might mean I am infertile. Sad

I have also been recently experiencing cramping with no period. I know i'm perimenapausal, and have had some irregular cycles within the last year. I'm almost 50 and my mother said she went thru the same thing at the end of her fertility years , so I'm assuming it's part of the trasitioning to menapause. I've been to the gyn. and had uterine scraping in the past , but feel that the trauma to my uterus would eventually lead to more problems so I've decided to wait it out and hope it's soon to end. protest
