I have been on 3 different pills and the
Nuvaring and none have seemed to work out
for me. I have horrible side effects with
all hormone variations that I try.
What are your favorite non-hormonal
methods of birth control?
What types of birth control would you
recommend using or avoiding?
I am thinking just using condoms and
spermicide.

Yeah, I have used condoms and spermicide
with no real problems. No broken condoms,
no accidental pregnancies.
I think I have a urinary tract infection
at the moment. If that is what it is,
it's the first I've ever had. I have
heard that spermicides increase your
chances of urinary tract infections. Of
course, I am not blaming it on the
spermicide. There are other things that
increase your chances of getting a uti, so
for all I know I might have gotten it even
if I had never used spermicide.
I say it's still better than all of those
side effects you get from hormonal birth
control though. I haven't touched the
stuff in about two years.

The only non-horomonal form I've used is
condoms; and unlike most people I actually
don't mind. Yes, flesh-to-flesh feels
better, but hey, I'm not pregnant so I'm
not complaining
There is also a non-horomonal iud, though
getting that when you're young is
extremely difficult because most doctors
are stupid when it comes to a woman's
right to not become pregnant.

Thanks for the responses.
I am married therefore there is no threat
of STDs, so we have tried the natural,
nonlatex condoms and they don't inhibit
the sensations much, if at all.
I have considered the IUD, but my doctor
refuses to insert one due to the fact that
I have never had children. She told me it
wasn't even an option, which I later found
out is untrue. I hate being lied to!
Grrr....

Yes! This is exactly the kind of crap that
makes me so angry! Who cares if you've
never had kids? It's your body!

Non Hormone Birth Control Posted: 05-14-07 20:25pm
About 7 months ago I stopped taking The
Pill. I was didn't feel like I should be
taking all those artificial hormones. Now
I do natural family planning and chart my
basal body temperatures and cervical
fluid. Might sound scary or strange but it
has changed my life. I follow this method
with the help of a book called Taking
Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler
( I bought it at Amazon used for only 10
dollars). It is completely effective and
has taught so much about my body, I am
actullay blown away that the stuff in this
book is not taught to every woman with a
uterus. The only down side is you have to
obstain from sex for about 7 days out of
every cycle but I have been married for
two years now and my husband and I both
work full time so we seem to manage. LOL.

You can find a doctor to insert an IUD..
I had my first IUD at 21, and had my tubes
tied at 24..
I have never had kids, and never want
them. You just have to do some looking.
Planned parenthood is usually the 100%
best place to get IUD's, as they do not
usually discriminate against women that
have not given birth.

I totally agree with you Eiri! It makes
me very angry as well.
I just wish that doctors and other health
care providers were more truthful when it
comes to the risks and side effects of
birth control. I couldn't figure out why
I was losing so much hair, why I began to
gain a fair amount of weight, lwhy I was
osing my sex drive, etc. until I did some
research on my own.
I have been experiencing the side effects
for a while and my doctor said it was a
fluke and to basically tough it out!
I think I may go back to Planned
Parenthood. I used to go there when I was
a teenager but switched to a "regular"
doctor when I got health insurance.

I have darn good health ins, but will
always use PP for my girly needs.
They don't act like my side effects were
'in my head', they treat you like a woman,
and trust you with your body =)

oh carifairy I didn't know that you
already had tubal ligation. Thank very
much for referring to the IUD. It's
almost a year since I had it and I love it
so much.

paragard IUD is my favorite birth
control.. I was lucky enought that the
nearbly planned parenthood agreed to
insert an IUD to an 18 year old,
nulliparous girl.

Yeah, even when I had good health
insurance (I don't at the moment), I still
went to Family Planning. Other doctors
always rushed me in and out. Family
Planning had a slower pace where they
would actually sit down and talk about
things.
