Q: Pain around scar after appendicitis operation
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 14th, 2007
I had my appendicitis operation in January, and was doing well. My doctor indicated that I can start horse riding 2 months, after the surgey. I had no problems when I started riding, however for the past week my cut has been hurting, sometimes right through the night, whether or not I exercise during the day. I have stopped riding for a few days, but the pain is consistant... is this normal in any way? The pain comes at different times of the day, irrespective of what I have or is doing.

Any pain around the scar location 3 months after surgery seems abnormal.... but you'll need a physical examination in order for a doctor to speculate about the possible reason or cause of the pain. The most important thing is to distinguish if the pain is due to some type of complication from the operation or if has no connection with the previous operation. You can consult the surgeon who removed your appendix, or your primary care physician for more details.
