Cutting And Smoking: Forbidden Pleasures.
Posted: 05-13-07 16:07pm

I cut myself all through eighth grade and stopped in high school. Now I'm in my last year of high school, and despite the three years it's been, I still get the urge to cut. Sometimes it feels like my arm is numb and the only way to feel again is to cut. I rub it and hit it, but nothing works. Cutting on my legs doesn't help--I want to do it on my arm. But I can't because everyone around me would notice. I would be happy if I could do it again. I smoked for a while before but I can't do that anymore because, once again, everyone would know and I can't take the crap they'd give me. It's just that the two things I want to do--cutting and smoking--are the two things I can't do. I've tried to focus on school and the book I'm working on and everything else, but I walk through the street and smell smoke and I SO want a human. What is wrong with me?

Can you not volunteer at an animal clinic or shelter? Too much time on your hands...make you think of hurting yourself such as cutting or smoking. I was once your age and I have finally been quit smoking for over 15 years. Hardest thing I ever did. You need to find a hobby such as knititng or making something to occupy your hands and your mind. TYou could also make things to sell, such as wind chimes or jewlery. Worked for me! Just answering your question as I saw no one else had responded! Smile

I think you need to surround yourself with more people in your life. Spend more time with your family and siblings, if you have any. Tell your friends to help you out... tell them that you have an urge to cut and smoke, and make a deal with them: each time you feel any of those urges again, tell them to your friends, and then your friends would affirm to you that you should not do it and give you support that way.

Thanks for these suggestions! I actually do have a couple hobbies I might could use to distract myself. I had forgotten about them. And maybe I'll talk to my friend today. Thanks again.
