ive just been to my support group, at the moment it is about confidence building, and the theme for the day was, you are responsible for your own thoughts, your mind is like a computer that you have to programme to do what you want and if someone is feeding you negativity then you reject them and their views.

sound good?

what if you're not responsible for your own thoughts? what if you dont even recognise them? and they are coming from someone else, not yourself?

what if someone has hacked into your computer and can create chaos at will? what if your thoughts, feelings, emotions and behavior are under someone else's control?

how do you dismiss someone who is feeding you negativity if you cant get to that person? how do you escape demons within?

confidence, confusion and catastrophy!

sounds like you're being fed a simplified, technocratic view of yourself. the brain is much more than a computer. chances are that if you're sick you will not have the kind of control you can have at a computer, and the challenge is to live with that. trying to get back a mythical sense of power is just a dream for us. everyday coping is what we have to have on a realistic level.
