Alyvia's Appointment

She's officially too small. Her
weight/height combined is 5th percentile,
and her weight is under 5th
percentile. Her doctor wants her to gain a
bit of weight because if she were to get
sick, she'd have no reserves. Alyvia hates
jarred foods, so the doc gave us a list of
ways to increase her calorie intake with
table foods. I'm also going to switch her
to oatmeal and hope that some of it will
stick to her bones.
The doc did say she's 100% healthy,
though. She's super active, hitting all of
her developmental milestones, etc. She
didn't see any problems other than her
being tiny. She said it's fine for her to
be tiny and that we can't expect her to
gain a lot of weight since she has our
genes, but she would like to see her put
on a bit more weight.
When we took her to the doctor last week
she was 15 pounds 2 ounces. Today the
scale (different scale) said she was 14
pounds 8 ounces. I asked the nurse about
it and she said different scales will give
different amounts. But over half a pound
difference? That doesn't sound remotely
right to me.
So that's it. I'm on a mission to plump my
baby up. Wish us luck, please. And any
recommendations for baby-friendly high
calorie meals are more than welcome!

Glad to hear that she is 100% healthy.
That doesn't sound right though that the
two scales would be that far off. I could
see maybe an ounce or two at the most. As
for food suggestions, I'm not really sure.
She could probably eat almost everything
you are eating now. Tiny pieces of
chicken or turkey. We went out to dinner
last night and we gave .Noah some bread
for the first time and he loved it!
Also....Happy 9 months .Alyvia! I'll
never forget her birthday because .Noah is
exactly one month older then she is.

Hey .laura!!!!! As long as she's healthy,
she's fine!!
We've *always* had .oni on oatmeal...never
rice. Mixed cereal at times, but never
rice.
Avacado's are very fattening and fulll of
protein! Squash, beans, meats, etc are
also great for a baby and have a high fat
protein!
YOu can mash these up and sprinkle some
oatmeal cereal into them...it will help
with her weight.
But, once she gets on whole cows milk,
she'll fatten right up!!!
And now that she's mobile, it's possible
that she has lost a lb. Oni went one month
with gaining only a half a lb...when she
averages about 1 1/2 , 2!

Scales can be different. Mines at home
and the dr.'s scale are 4 lbs off and the
one at school is 9 lbs off!
My friend's baby is 1 year and is 15 lbs.
As long as she's healthy.

I sure am glad she feeling better! SHe
could have lost weight because she is
teething and probably not wanting to eat
as much as normal.

only in like the 3rd percentile for her
weight.. but as long as our girls are
healthy that's all that matters! =)

When I started putting cereal in Amelias
milk, she gained 2 lbs during that first
week Its not like that
now though. I only give her that bottle
before bed. Then I give her a half of #1
jar of fruit at noon and then the rest of
the fruit and along with a #1 vegi at 5.
In between I give her milk. She weighs
14lbs and 12oz since this past thursday!
Shes a big baby.
Try putting mixed cereal in her bottle.
Make it thickish but thin enough for fast
flow. Mel looooves it and Thats what put
on her weight. Best before bed so she wont
'exercse' it off.

From what I have seen in pictures you and
your husband are small. You are nursing
.Alyvia and breastmilk doesn't have as
many calories as formula, but is certainly
much better for her.
She looks absolutely great!!!

Thank you for the support, ladies! I was
pretty devastated when she said that. I'm
buckling down with meals and looking for
ways to add calories to everything. She
doesn't have another appointment until
.august, but I think .i'll try new meals
for a month and bring her in for a
weigh-in.
Good news: she likes baby oatmeal and
applesauce. I might upgrade to adult
oatmeal and flavor it with her stage 1
fruits, but I need to check the oatmeal
labels first. We're also going to start
eating mashed potatoes (we don't really
care for it much) and offer her some.
Maybe I can melt a bit of cheese on it and
see if she likes it. She recommended stage
2 mac & cheese, so we'll probably try
the regular stuff since she hates jarred
foods.

I understand about the whole weight thing.
My little one is between the 5 to 8th
percentile for weight. He is average in
height, so he is quite the skinny thing.
My husband and are our usually pretty
slender people (when I am not pregnant -
ha ha). I am doing everything I can to
have him gain weight as well. He seems
predestined to be a slender/skinny child.
It sounds like you got a plan. It is very
hard to hear that news but the good thing
is she is healthy!! How old is she again??
She doesn't seem as picky as our Nate was.
I have never heard of farley cookies. What
are those??

"percentiles" shouldn't even be told to
the parents. All it does it upset them.
Seriously.
It's ridicilious how upset parents get
about the percentil their child is in.
It's un called for!
As long as your baba is healthy, they
should classify his/her weight with
numbers.
Oni's Dr. *never* gives a percentile.
THey've only told me "she's off the charts
for height and weight."(only if I asked)
not, "oh she's in the 15th percentile."
I"m not saying that you being upset isn't
legit. As I totally can see why you'd be
upset! Nobody wants to hear that their
child comes in at 3 percent compared to a
100%!
I'd cry if they told me that.
All I'm saying is the nurses Dr. shouldn't
classify the children in a percentage. Or,
they should just keep it to themselves.
All it does is worry the parent.
