? For Anyone Who Has Had Success With An Orthotic
Posted: 05-07-07 19:38pm

So, I have had this thing in for about 3 weeks. I actually do see an improvement, not huge but somewhat better. The question I have is: the splint is on the bottom. I am noticing my upper jaw aching , it is definately a new ache, haha. Is it my jaw getting used to the new position, do you think?

Ive had a orthotic and yes you do get a little sore. You may want to contact your dentist and see if your orthotic needs to be adjusted. They do need adjusting from time to time as your muscles and bite improve. If the ache gets too bad take 400mg of ibuprophen with food and lots of water.

I think that you will get used to it soon. It may just need to be fine tuned. Like I said talk to your doctor. He will know best what to do. What Kind of doctor are you seeing?

I actually see a dentist who spcializes in TMJ disorder. He is very well informed, he is constantly going to conferences and learning the newest treatments and ideas about TMJ. He has taught me that there is a lot more going on than just teeth, in fact he suspects there is some arthritis in the area as well, because I am so sensitive to weather. He takes a very conservative approach, trying different things. I would reccomend him highly to anyone. This orthotic is temporary, I go back every week to get it checked. But overall I am feeling better. Before I got this I was in so much pain and was starting to get dizzy, so when it flared up I was actually in bed. Now it is much better, if I take the pain meds my doc gives me, along with norflex, I can function nomally. I think he is going to put somethng on the top teeth as well, to see if that helps more. Eventually I will have to have some crowns done.

Hi MC,
I believe the answer to your questions is, yes, your mouth is getting used to a new position, etc., but you really should tell your dentist as soon as possible. Better safe than sorry.

God bless...
Carol

Yes, neuromuscular of course. He often refers patients to specialists in other disciplines as well. My chiropractor was the one who found him for me.
