Had a Major Sugar Blip

Ok I confess i have slipped up on my diet over the last couple of days and have eaten a small amount of the wrong things along side of the good diet. I have stuck to the diet for about 7 weeks and thought there was a bit of an improvement, but in the last week or two I have had really bad insomnia and have even gotten up at 2 in the morning feeling totally hyper in an aggitated way. I seem to have too much nervous energy. I don't get tired just restless. I have gone from someone with chronic fatigue with low energy but felt nearly healthy to feeling awful with too much energy, but can't seem to use it productively. Last week there were two nights in a row where I only got two hours sleep. I used to be able to sleep so easily. I have some sleeping tablets that are helping me now but my doctor will only give me a few at any one time.

I know it might sound a bit stupid to try and eat some chocolate or something, I just wanted to dampen down this crazy energy and maybe even feel tired which I am used too. The problem I have now is that my depression seems a bit worse. I am on St John's Wort but have only taken it for a week so its too soon to have an effect.

I have tried eating protien and good stuff before I go to sleep but I seem to be woken up by a strange sensation in my torso, could be adrenalin, i don't know. does any one else get insomnia with this?

Any advice or may be some encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
I would really prefer to stick to the diet but seems a bit difficult right now.

Lots of love Vicki x

Unfortunately, this torture is often unavoidable, I'll tell you that from experience. I used to wake up shaking with intense, dry, strange feelings in my stomach but I persisted, never slipping. Every little slip you make sets you back and makes it that much harder to cope with the treatment. Don't do it.

Hi thank you for posting, I think I just needed to know that it is just part of the process. May i ask you if you had times where you just couldn't sleep at all because of this? I also have what these strange hot and cold swirly feelings around my stomach too, is that something you have experienced? Sorry to ask but no-one else I know has ever had this before.

Many thanks and best wishes Vicki x

Yes, I had several instances when I couldn't sleep I was so jumpy, panicky and so forth. Explain these sensations more, I think I know what you mean but I haven't heard it explained like that.

hi there two types of sensations, one is like the feeling you get on a rollercoaster when it starts to dip which is what keeps me awake sometimes. the second is like hot and cold water swirling around my stomach, back and even across the back of my head. Before I knew I had this hypo thing I would feel incredibly hot but not actually have a fever. If some one touched me they felt warmer, but I had my window open in january at night because I just felt so hot and in the uk its pretty cold at night. I am fortunate that I see an accupunturist who calmed the heat thing down and when I went on the diet that helped too. I still get these weird hot/cold sensations. Right now it feels like I have something cool against my stomach.

May I also ask if you feel like you reached a point of feeling really healthy? Did your sleep patterns return to normal?

Many thanks and best wishes Vickix

Those symptoms are aggravating, and perhaps frightening at times, but normal, especially the hot sensations. Well, yeah, I feel very healthy right now, better than I was before with a body I've always wanted to achieve. The pea thing didn't work out so well but I figured out the reason why is because I was eating every two hours, carb intake, at least in my case, cannot be increased until I get to at least every three. Now I'm at 2 1/2 with 3 or even more occasionally. My sleep patterns are perfectly fine now, I sleep better than I ever have.

I'm so glad you feel healthy and that your sleep is good. I find that very encouraging cos I was worrying (another habit I need to cut out) that I would have these problems permenantly. I miss sleeping well. Sorry that the peas didn't work out, maybe they will be ok later on.

It's not that they didn't work out, I can eat them, I just need to wait to eat them until I have longer periods between eating because they are a bit starchy. Worrying is kind of a symptom in its own right, it's a natural part of the healing process because the brain stuggles to find an answer since you feel so bad.
