CBT is great i have just learnt all about it and only wished i found it years ago .The breathing is a great device to have and it can go with you anywhere also to the breathing another thought mover is visualisation take your mind to a place of beauty and think of all the lovely things that you see there whether it be the beach just close your eyes feel the gently breeze on your face ,smell the salty air ,hear the waves as they crash to the shore ,the sea gulls chattering together .

Another one with the breathing is to focus your mind on the air entering the bottom of your lungs watching them inflate with each breath taken and as you breath out slowly watch them deflate i find this one every helpfull when i`m out and feeling very uncomfortable with the surrounding situations
All the best

Good advice on the breathing. I would avoid distraction as that is only a temporary form of relief but try and learn to counter and eliminate the thoughts instead so they do not return.
