The US Supreme Court ruled cigarettes are not regulatable as drugs in 2000 in a landmark case of tobacco companies vs the FDA. At that time, the FDA wanted to regulate cigarettes just as they do all other drugs, but the US Supreme court (yes, the old men) sided with big tobacco companies in that decision. Thereafter, the FDA has been hands off of tobacco and the only regulation has come through acts of Congress and the class action suits filed by the states attorney generals against the tobacco compnaies resulting in a megabuck settlement to be paid to the states by the tobacco manufacturers.
I can't say I take all my cues from old men either but it comes down to whether we are a society of individuals that have the right to pick and choose which laws of the land we are going to obey today.

"Yep, when you smoke a cig you are smoking chemicals and tobacco is a drug..I bet you smoke cigs and thats inhaling toxins...but you wont admit it. " Homerx

The discussion was instituted by the statement above proclaiming "tobacco is a drug". My replies were based on correcting that error.
Nicotine is a drug, tobacco is not according to the FDA and the US Supreme Court.

I don't personally care about whether or not the FDA consideres tobacco a drug, because that's not what I'm talking about. I am referring to YOUR statement of "No inhaled drug will ever be legal". Well, sorry to burst your bubble but nicotine is a drug and it is legal and it is inhaled. So your statement is false.

Ah the joys of semantics....
The FDA has not approved any smoked drugs period.
The FDA will not approve any smoked drugs period.
The FDA does not regulate cigarettes period.

Nicotine is a drug...it is regulated by the FDA. SMOKED drugs have never been legally approved by the FDA and they never will. There is a huge difference between "smoked" or "inhaled". Some inhaled drugs are legal......no smoked drugs are legal. Cigarettes are not drugs therefore are not regulated by the FDA

Not at all. There are many inhaled drugs approved by the FDA, primarily for asthma treatment, however there are no smoked drugs approved by the FDA. The smoke contains toxins that inhalational systems do not.

umm actually
Actually cigarettes are a drug, so is alcohol and backpain you need to stop arguing with people of higher inteligence on the matter... im sorry to say but you sound like a total right wing conservative thats pro-life and supports the death sentence... you talking about a subject that you have little to no knowledge on.

Saying cigarettes isn't a drug is like saying marijuana isn't a drug and that THC is the drug
