Q: Am I Menopause(ing)?

New member. I had a hyster 7 years ago. Now I am having hot flashes, trouble sleeping, night sweats,breast tenderness. Still have my ovaries and thought that I would miss this boat, My doc at that time told me my ovaries would completly shut down w/in 3 years. Any info would be helpful. I am 44 yo. Shocked

Having a hysterectomy where only your uterus was removed doesn't change hormone levels that your ovaries produce. If you had had your ovaries removed at the time of surgery you would have experienced immediate menopause. I don't understand why your dr. said the things he did - that's not the way it works. Since you are about in the right age range and you have your ovaries, you are quite likely to be experiencing some symtoms of peri-menopause. I would go in to see your Dr. and have blood work to determine the levels of hormones in your body.
