Q: 3 Months After Iud Insertion, No Period And Sudden Extra

side effects.

I got a Mirena IUD back in January after the birth of my son in Nov. I had light bleeding the first two weeks of Feb (started around the 8th and went until the 21st, I think). then it stopped and then an actual period in March (6th-17th). In April I had spotting two weeks after those periods for two days and then nothing. Since I got my IUD I've had light cramping and some mood swings, but since the end of April I've noticed some new symptoms: I'm even moodier, breast tendeness, occassional heart burn and always sick to my stomach. From what I understand and what I've read, no bleeding after 3 months isn't the norm and I hadn't heard of sudden onset of symptoms months after insertion. Has anyone else had a similar experience or should I start to worry? I've always had long periods that were always a few days off from each other from month to month prior to the IUD, so I guess it's not the no period thing that was worrying me as much as having all the symptoms and just the light spotting.

I currently have the mirena, too. I experienced crazy, never know when I might get it, periods that lasted for weeks for the first three months. Then for the next three months I had normally scheduled very short and light periods. After that I never had another one, which is great! At first I also had pretty bad cramps that would sometimes stop me in my tracks. I think it was just my body adjusting to the system. In my opinion, what you are experiencing sounds normal to me. It seems like when it comes to the mirena pretty much anything goes. Some people bleed for months and others stop almost immediately. Same for all of the other symptoms. I think too that we pay attention to every little thing at first too because it is hard to grasp that we shouldn't be pregnant when we really don't do anything to prevent it! Hope this helps!

I guess I freak out easily now. My last son was concieved while I was on the pill. Not really due to misuse, it's just that he was concieved the week I had the flu and some meds I was on made the pill ineffective. Plus, I had been throwing up all week. So now I'm really on pins and needles. My first boy was also a birth control baby (condoms) so I figure if it's gonna happen, it will happen to me Smile I don't mind spotting or no periods. Hey, looking forward to it. It just kinda knocked me off guard when it happened so soon. For my peace of mind, I may take a test just so I can see that it's negative (I'm so paranoid) and once the boob pain (it hurts like a mother right now) goes away, I'll be estatic.

I completely understand the paranoia. I was the same way at first. The littlest oddities would make me wonder. I tested a couple of times at first, just for my peace of mind, but I haven't in a while. The negative result is always a big relief! I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

I ended up at the ER yesterday afternoon. I started getting some stomach pains at work on top of some really bad abdominal swelling (I had a customer ask me when I was due. I was upset until I looked down and seen how puffy I'd actually gotten over the course of 20-30 minuets). Doctor said I had an infection around my left fallopian tube, but highly doubted it was from the IUD. I also had a spider bite on my leg that I didn't know was a spider bite that was totally unrelated, but they said it explained my muscle aches and dizziness. So, I'm not pregnant (woohoo!), the IUD is still in, and I have some antibiotics for the infection and they gave me something that reduced the swelling. Hopefully after the prescription is gone, my symptoms (or most of them) should be gone too. Still got some tenderness in my breasts, but I'll take that over baby #4 before #3 gets into school anyday of the week.

Oh Wow! What an ordeal? Hopefully things will settle down soon. At least now you know what is going on.

Just wondering, why did they say that the infection wasn't due to the IUD? When I got mine in, the doc warned me that infection was possible and told me to watch for the signs of it. I would think that it was possible because they're sticking something foreign inside your body, if it's not completely sterile you could get an infection.

Also, from the first day I got it in, I never got my period. Not once in the whole year I had it.

While, I hope you're feeling better and I'm glad you're getting the problem fixed....

good luck.

Mirena--no period after insertion
wow..these posts were all interesting to read.

I got my mirena inserted in august...its now
nov. and no period. I spotted for 2 weeks after it was put in, went in for my check up app. to make sure it was still in place. And woo hoo! it didn't move. But now I'm worried!! 2 months without a period...my baby is 4mnths old, and I have a 22month old. I can live without my period...but i'm extremely paranoid! I have no symptoms other than no period...

called my doc. said I should be fine, to do a home test just to make sure and call her if its positive!!!

I'll call her in tears!!! if its positive!

is it common for periods just to stop after insertion?? will I be on pins and needles this year scared cause I have no periods????
