What has helped me with my constipation
problems was to incorporate a cleansing
program at once or 2x a year. I have been
using the colonix program by drnatura and
it has helped me get my life back and on
track to a healthier and happier me.
It is easy to use and incorporate into
everyday life. I even lost 10lbs of built
of fecal matter when I first did the
cleanse. I believe it is my life saver. I
suffered a long list of medical issues
that are now nonexsistant.
I hope you find what works for you. Keep
us posted on your progress.

Re: Colonoscopy Prep Posted: 09-06-07 21:57pm
I have the same problem but mine is a
little different. I was diagnoised this
morning with a redindent colon. The doctor
told me that I needed to take metimucil
and miralax. My problem is that the
metimucil clogs me up and the miralax
works after 2 days. But when I do finally
go I have diarea for the rest of the day
and into the night. I have been going
through this for 5 years now. I was
wondering if I will be able to have
children with this problem? I am only 29
and my husband and I are wanting to start
a family. I f any one can help let me
know.

For me what has worked to clear me
completely was the colonix program from
drnatura. It is a gentle cleanse and easy
to take. I have been using the colonix
program for 8 years now at least once and
sometimes 2 x a year. The first time I did
do the cleanse I did the recommended 3
months. It is important to give the herbs
time to work and for me it took until the
middle of the second month before it
really "kicked" in. I am so glad I found
this program because it really saved my
life. I had a long list of medical
problems and today with a change in my
eating and incorporating the colonix
program each year I am healthy and happy.
This is what has worked for me. I hope you
find what works for you. Please share your
successes.

Redundant Bowel And Constipation Posted: 09-13-07 09:28am
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (not refined
coconut oil). I began by buying a small
glass jar but it is costly so I found some
online - Tropical Traditions. I began by
taking a tablespoon in the morning and in
the evening but found 1 tablespoon in the
morning worked well too. I began about 5
weeks ago and have had a bowel movement
everyday except once, usually in the
morning. Sometimes I have had 2. I
re-checked my transit time (time it takes
for the food to pass through the bowel -
eat beets and watch for their appearance)
and it was still pretty much 3 days.
Interestingly, I lost weight and my
abdomen softened and stopped protruding as
much. Prior to taking coconut oil I have
done cleanses - Master Lemon Cleanse and a
21 day bowel cleanse by Puristat. I
believe cleansing is very important
however it did not produce the results I
am experiencing from using coconut oil.
It is important to note that coconut oil
is not a trans fat. It is good for you.
I now cook with it as it does not readily
break down at high temperatures.

Redundant Colon And Prolapse Posted: 09-29-07 10:33am
I'm a 60 yr old male who has just been
diagnosed with redundant colon. What took
them so long to find this out? As a child,
I had numerous bouts of constipation and
got into the bad habit of straining to
pass stools, sometimes even when it was
not necessary. Over the years, I found
that eating a lot of fiber (like irish
oatmeal, veggies, and an apple just before
bed) nearly solved the problem. Several
years ago, I started experiencing rectal
bleeding every time I had a BM (about a
teaspoon total). I could stop it by
applying toilet tissue compresses soaked
in warm water. Two days ago, I had a
colonoscopy and barium enema and the
doctor finally told me that I had
redundant colon and rectal prolapse (not
simply hemorrhoids as I was told by
several other doctors). He said that the
rectum could be stitched in place to
prevent it from protruding (about 1 inch,
sometimes more) and bleeding. Over the
past two day, I feel really crappy
(unintentional pun) with pain in the lower
left quadrant (over the rectal area). I am
still passing the barium (like plaster of
paris) and I don't think I'll ever have
another one due to the resulting pain. Has
anyone had the corrective surgery
(stitching) and had good results? Thanks
everyone. I can feel all of your pain,
believe me.

Redundant Colon Posted: 10-13-07 19:17pm
WOW! I had no idea there were so many of
us!! And we get no help from the medical
profession about it...
I'm about to face (or is that the right
position?) my first colonoscopy since the
last one when I was told it couldn't be
finished by either the dr. or the
radiologist because it was redundant -
& there was air in the colon! Don't
they put air in there, to begin with? I
don't understand...
Anyway, after years of constipation,
including a week at a health spa where
nothing came out, in spite of laxatives
& prunes, I (excuse me for the graphic
image) had to dig it out with the
tooth-brush handle. Ugh! Then I went to
a holistic dr. who recommended Smooth Move
Tea from Traditional Medicinals, available
at Whole Foods, & for the last 3-4
years I have soft b.m. every day. It
doesn't solve all my problems, but at
least I'm no longer so horribly
constipated. If I'm addicted, so what -
so long as I can continue to get my "fix"?
Good luck to you all.

Redundant Colon Posted: 11-12-07 12:48pm
Where do I start? I have all the problems
that are posted and was also told that
there was nothing that could be done. I
had not had a BM in a month! I eat well,
exercise and have since I have been 23
yrs. old. I am now 53.
To make a long story short, I started
going to a clinic that does hydro
colonics. It works great! They suggested I
stop any form of sugar intake because they
believed I had Candida. It helped. Then
they told me to stop eating Gluten. It
helped. I went on line because I really
did not know what gluten is in. After only
three days I felt better. I had my primary
DR. test me for celiac disease and sure
enough the numbers were very high. I had a
biopsy of my small intestine and the villi
( which absorb nutrients was totally
flat)! I am having a second colonoscapy
tomorrow because 6 months ago they could
not see the lining of my colon. There is
surgeory that can be done to remove part
of the colon through lazer surgery. If you
go onto the Mayo Clinic you can read more
about it. Get tested for Celiac Disease.
It is an AutoImune disease and can kill
you if you continue to eat gluten. I have
fibromyalgia, IBS. Arthritus, osteopenia
and of course chronic pain. All because I
did not absorb what I ate including
expensive supplements. Celiac can also
cause your colon to be redundant.

I also have a redundant colon and after 5
blockages from twists in the bowel I
finally had surgery. It was just done 5
days ago so it is too early to say what
the long term benefits will be. I was
getting twists more frequently despite
following a good diet, exercise and lots
of water. Surgery was the only option left
for me and not done without much thought.
Right now I fell better than I have for
several years.

I am having a sitz marker test next week.
Depending on what happens I guess I will
have surgery myself. Please tell me what
exactly what they did.

Colonscopies Posted: 12-06-07 09:32am
Hi, I was told the same thing. I did a
liquid dast for three days plus the 1/2
gallon of liquid. It worked. I now take
Mitizia. It works great. I go once or
twice a day. T%he only side effect is a
little nausa.

Redundant Colon And Constipation Posted: 12-19-07 15:21pm
I am also glad to hear I am not the only
person to have a redundant colon and
constipation since I was 2 days old. I
too have tried EVERY concoction known to
modern man. I too have luck with a new
"product" for a while, then it stops being
effective. Smooth Move does work; herbal
colon cleansers work--again, not
continuously for me. I too go to Colonics
every 6 - 8 weeks which I LOVE!! For all
of you fellow-sufferers, I feel for each
and every one of you. I guess I need to
try the new drug, Amitizia or Mitizia, or
whatever its called. Because they yanked
that other IBS drug off the market, I'm a
little leary to try another one, but hey,
it's all about that next movement, so I
probably will.

Wow! So many of
your challenges sound familiar. However,
the information "out there" to help with
my constant constipation is not
encouraging. I am a 42 year old female.
I have suffered with digestive distress
throughout my life. I assumed that I was
fairly normal. I thought my husband was
unusual because he had a bowel movement
daily if not more often. I usually
require a week or more! (I am careful
about what I eat because I know that it
will be with me for a while!) I did not
know the source of my distress until I
went in for a colonoscopy. My
gastroenterologist said that my colon was
a mess (like spaghetti). He told me not
to run right out and get bowel surgery;
however, he felt that I should meet with a
bowel surgeon to discuss the possible
benefits of part removal of much of my
colon to make it a more typical length.
He added that he wasn't even certain that
I could change my diet enough to manage my
situation. I really do not want to have
surgery, but the doctor said that for some
people it was life-changing. I would
appreciate hearing from anyone that has
had surgery to remove part of the colon
because of the length and twists in their
colon before I consider meeting with the
bowel surgeon. I don't want to be talked
into it just because the surgeon is in the
position to make money from it.

Well all these postings are both
comforting and sad. Why don't doctors
have a handle on this issue? The surgeon
I saw wants to refer me to a specialist
but after reading all these postings it
sounds as if the MD will not have much of
an answer for me. I have had problems
with constipation for many years but just
three weeks ago my bowels completely
stopped. Nothing I have tried has moved
them: magnesium citrate, phosphosoda
preps, Miralax, ExLax - even enemas only
helped to provide a small amount of
relief. I am so distended it hurts. My
colon is impinging on the spaces for my
kidneys and even my back hurts. I guess I
will try some of the homeopathic remedies
suggested above. Any other thoughts?
Thanks.

I have also expierienced this, all, but
now i am normal, WITHOUT LAXATIVES, NOR
ANY MEDICINE.
I had been facing this problems for a
year, but now i am ok. i will tell you
what i did. (nothing dangerous)
First i could go to the toilet once a
week, then i tried to change it to four
days, it was not successful in the first
place. then i ate ONE GREEN APPLE PER DAY
and then tried, it was better than the
last time, and like that i switched to
four days. than i changed my diet again,
ONE GREEN APPLE AND Lots of GREEN LEAVES
per day. Now it took me a while to change
to two days, Then I always went to the
toilet in two days. And then i wanted to
change to one day so i ate even more
leaves, veggetables and i stopped my
habbit of DRINKING COKE. Then i switched
to the morning of the second day. And
finally when i am back to normal, i
stopped taking that diet and i am still
ok.
I hope that this is helpful

Looking into colectomy Posted: 02-10-08 00:56am
I'm 48 years old and have been constipated
all of my life. I recently had a
colonoscopy and was told that I have a
redundant colon. I've tried many
remedies such as fiber, laxatives, lots of
water, coffee and exercise. It seems they
all worked for awhile, but then quit
working. I'm looking into a colectomy. I
Googled colectomy and there was
information about the surgery......it
seems like it's major and something to
think through. I would like to hear from
anyone who has had the surgery.

I have redundant colon too Posted: 02-12-08 00:33am
I have had problems for all my adult life,
so I think this is hereditary and I am
guessing my mother had it. She only lived
to 64. I also have fibromyalgia and
Hasimoto thyroiditus, which I am wondering
if autoimmune disorders are from being
constipated and that my body has to deal
with more of its share of toxins. Anyway,
I do a 4 day clean out for exams. My BE
was done without air and they took about
50 "pictures" horizontal and verticle, etc
and I do have a kink when verticle which
goes away when horizontal. I have
redundancy in ascending, transverse
,descending, and sigmoid sections, and the
transverse piece is in my pelvis, not my
abdomen where it should be. I am looking
for a surgeon who will do a modified left
hemicolectomy with Colonic Fixation
(google this to read article). Has anyone
had partial removal vs total colectomy? I
think my colon works, I just have way too
much and it is kinked. All of the
surgeons I've talked to want to remove the
whole thing, but I want to try partial
like the study because of the nasty side
effects of total colectomy. I take
Nulytly everynight and 1000 mg of chewable
magnesium citrate. I cook with coconut
oil and I drink mint tea everymorning. I
am in a regular daily routine with all
this, but in a lot of pain if I stay
vertical or do much physical activity. If
I don't follow my routine, I pay for it!

Thank you for your response. Any
information is great. I have established
a eating routine that is helping for now,
but am concerned about the times, such as
vacation, that I can't keep with my
routine. I will also ask my Dr. about the
hemicolon procedure. I think that would
be a better option for me. If you find
anymore information, please let me know!
Thank you!
