Recently I seem to have lost the ability to digest proteins and fats. After eating a small chicken salad (no dressing) I feel like I hate the whole turkey for Thanksgiving. Only fruits, vegetables and grains (bread) seem to go down easy. Everything else just sits in my gut for ages.

I have very mild pain on the upper right side of the abdomen (but only when the doctor examined me by applying pressure to the area). This morning I woke up with pain in my right shoulder blade. I had it last week too, but I thought I pulled something at the gym, so I didn't tell the doctor about it.

The doctor did tests last week, and my liver function was fine, so was my white blood cell count. He did other tests, like celiac disease, but where all negative. I'm not jaundice.

I'm seeing the doctor again next week (I'm having my period, so he wanted to make sure it wasn't related to it), but I don't know if the pain in my back is significant enough to move the appointment earlier.

Does it sound like a gallbladder problem? Are gallstones always severely painful? Could it be something else? Would a gallbladder disorder account for my poor digestion?

Thanks

could be or couldnt be gallbladder problems, gallbladder attacks are particularly painful and start under the ribcage and can radiate to around the back as well. You might have a poor functioning gallbladder, maybe they can do a hida scan to determine how well your gallbladder is functioning, it could be anumber of things maybe even IBS, just depends, hope you get it figured out though.

I live in Canada, and it seems like I'll be suffering for quite a while. I just heard from my doctor that the ultrasound to find out if it's gallstones will take 2 week just to book the appointment. Who knows when the actual appointment will be...
