Update - My Poor Little Man! Posted: 05-02-07 19:23pm
Took my little three year old Nateboy to
the pediatric gastro's today. The doctor
stated that his little colon is bigger
than the average adults!! He has chronic
severe constipation. The doctor stated
that diet and myralax won't help him
problem without a complete cleansing. He
also lost three pounds in this last month,
but we just moved and he has been pretty
hyper lately. It is such a severe problem
that he has encopresis.
The only cause that we can see is that he
used to become so hyperfocused on
activities, he would hold his poo so long
that it would become impacted. Stress
could have caused some of it because we
moved from Oh to AZ 8 months ago. It
became pretty bad at that time:( We are
pretty good at diet but he was such a
dairy kid early in life that that could
have caused his initial constipation. He
wouldn't eat hardly anything else. Who
knows. The doctor is also testing him for
metabolic disorders along with other
things. Perhaps there are additional
issues???
So, we have to clean him out and that will
take three days. We also have to give him
a stimulant (ex lax) to help him regain
the sensation of what it feels like to
need to poo. Once he is completely
cleansed, hopefully diet will work better.
This poor little guy needs a break. He had
at least three enemas by the time he was a
year old. I hope that this problem
resolves and he can enjoy life without
having to stop what he is doing and having
his little cramping episodes. It just
breaks my heart. I am so glad we went to
the specialist. We had been going to a
regular pediatrician for the past year and
they just kept telling us to do the same
things. Meanwhile, his colon was getting
worse.

poor baby! i hope the diet works for him
and he can poo regularly!
aww that sucks, poor little boy, ive dealt
with the whole encopresis thing so if u
ever need someone to talk to you can PM
me. It is hard to deal with that but
better to get help at a young age and
really good you are seeing specialists.
Once he is cleaned out you just gotta be
right behind him 100% to make sure he has
regular bowel movements or the problem
goes back to step 1 again and you gotta go
through the whole process all over again.
It sucks, its hard to deal with that alone
also because you dont want them dependent
on laxatives , etc. Encopresis is more
well known now than when i was little, the
drs thought it was all psychological, dumb
people, but im happy for you that you are
taking the right steps to make him all
better. keep me updated on it
Diane
There is a site or forum i cant remember
what it was of alot of parents with
children with encopresis, its more common
in boys then girls for some reason. But
they all share there stories, what theyve
been doing to help etc. ifi come across
that website again ill PM ya with it. its
just dedicated to encopresis.
