Hello. I am a 24 yr old female..I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I am extremely curious... Last week I went to my doc 4 my annual pap and pelvic exam. as she was feeling around my uterus, she interrupted what i was talking about an pushed on my lower abdomen and asked "does this hurt?" I noticed the weird look on her face when I answered "yes"... I then told her that I had a cyst at one point and with the same odd look she said "i think you still might"..then she said something along the lines of "i cant tell for sure but your uterus feels a little swollen and possibly off center"..then she scheduled me for an ultrasound..
Well, I had my ultrasound done and when I called for the results the doctor herself got on the phone and told me that i have a cyst on my right ovary and it is standard to get another ultrasound done by a womans specialist... well, this struck me as a bit odd because last time they found a cyst they said it will eventually go away and sent me on my merry way...
The next day I called in to get the results of my pap (which came back normal) and mentioned to the nurse that i thought it was a bit odd to schedule me for another ultrasound IF ITS JUST A CYST. then nurse then informed me that it WAS NOT a cyst, but a dark spot that had shown up on the ultrasound and they dont know what it is...so thats why im going 2 a womans specialist.... i am thinking the doctor had lied 2 me b4 so she wouldnt scare me and i wouldnt get ahead of myself..the doctor knows i have been through HELL lately.. I bet if she knew the nurse told me the truth shed say, "DOH!" and smack her in her head..... anyway, i was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, a dark spot on their ovary. and what did it turn out to be? like i said, i am probably just getting ahead of myself and i do have a appointment 4 another ultrasound, but we do have cancer in the family, both mom and dads side... ANYONE?

I'm sorry that you are giong through all of this. I can't believe that your doctor would tell you over the phone, the nurse either. I went to get my annual and it came back abnormal so I had to have a colposcopy done. Well when the results came in, the doctor refused to tell me over the phone, so I had to pay a $30 copay just to sit there and talk to this woman. That made me soooo mad.

Im sorry I cant be of much help other than to try to relax until you get your next ultrasound. Hopefully it is nothing.

Good Luck

Cysts are common. They come and go throughout a woman's cycle. Some women have pains with them and others don't.

What kind of women's specialist are you going to? A gynocologist? While that is a 'specialist' it isn't cause to be concerned about being sent there. They just know that 'area' a little more in depth than a family doctor. It is normal practice for a family doctor to send you to a gyno if there are any issues in that area that might need to be checked out.

On the off center uterus: women can have uteri of various shapes and sizes. What is normal for you may not be normal for me - so that, in itself doesn't mean a whole lot.

Relax and wait for your next ultrasound. I know it is easier said than done, but this could turn out to be your average, normal, monthly cyst.

Good luck!
