Anti retroviral medications (PEP) after HIV test
Posted: 05-02-07 04:46am

Hallo,

It was really stupid. I had sex with a prostitute 3 days before. I used a condom, but never inspected the type and quality of it. I heard that only Latex/ Polyurethane can prevent HIV/STD. All I can say is that I feel that the condom is hard enough that I get very less feeling. Now, I am afraid of the HIV and STDs. I don't know what to do. Ofcourse, I am ready for tests but still not possible because I am window period. I consulted a doctor and asked about PEP(anti retroviral medications). But he refused to provide me saything that its not sure that you have HIV. What to do now? I am really scared and those things I never repeat it again.

Thanks
Spatriamst

It seems that you have no need to worry so much. You had protected sex with a condom and it seems likely that there is no risk for HIV-infection. Any kind of unprotected sex (ie. sex without condoms) with an unknown person, prostitute or not, is considered risky behavior. Protected sex with any person is not considered risky behavior. Anti-retrovirus preventive therapy is given only if there was a great risk to get infected with HIV. For example: having unprotected sex with an HIV+ person. At this time, you can only take the HIV-test and repeat the test after 3 months. No other action seems relevant.
