Q: High Levels of Anxiety ... Please Help

Hi everyone, my story is as it follows. The last year I was really busy at the university, my relationships didn't go well, and my family was passing throught a lot of troubles. I was pretty stressed, having headaches, tension, burning pain on my head, and a lot of other things. A few months ago, my troubles dissapeared, but my sympthoms didn't. Now i've got a kind of "disease" that is able to start in just a couple of minutes generating "automatic headaches" and a lot of tension. I am very worried about this because even the tinniest thing makes me feel anxious (things like, hey I have to talk to someone!) triggering all those sympthoms in a couple of minutes. Also I woke up experiencing tightness on my back, shoulders and legs. What can I do about it ? I have always considered myself a very anxious person, but this is getting worse, even with the stressors gone. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Hey There
Here is what you should do.

1. Pray - spend quiet time with the lord. Ask him to deliver you from your anxiety. Talk to god. Try starting with 15 minutes a day. Also ask the lord to give you strength and take away your pain. You will be amazed at the power of prayer.....You probably guessed that I am a christian.

2. Eat an alkaline diet. Do a google search on this and you will find out about it. Essentially, you need to balance the acid production you have from the anxiety with alkaline foods.

In a nutshell, green soups, salads and fresh vegetable juice for 2-3 days.

You will definitely feel better....

Remember...God first and then eat like you're protecting an incredibly valuable asset...
I'll pray for you.

Hi lex,

unfortunately you are now suffering from anxiety. Anxiety usually starts with a trigger, and from what you have described you have experienced enough stress to last you a life time. Once started, anxiety doesn't usually dissapear by itself. Some people are emotionally strong enough to control anxiety without medication, and live reasonably normal lives. But as anxiety takes control over the mind that is incredibly difficult to do. My husband and I have both suffered severe cases of anxiety most of our lives, and it has only been the last couple of years that we have actually started to use medication to cope. You mentioned talking to people can spark off tension for you. That is one of the most common things people suffering anxiety will experience. It is called social anxiety. Some people suffer this so badly they end up developing agrophobia, and they never actually leave their house or answer the phone, in fear of having to be confronted by a person. Headaches and tension in the back and neck are all symptoms of severe stress and anxiety. You will probably also notice the base of your head feeling sore, and also your shoulders and between the shoulder blades. Do you have a family member who can massage your shoulders, that would help temporarily in very bad circumstances. Or you could go to a massage therapist. You really need to talk to your doctor and get him/her to prescribe you with some mild anti depressants to help you cope if you are having a difficult time controlling it by yourself. You also need to teach your body how to relax. Whether it be sitting in the bath for an hour just laying there to soak, or laying on a bed and letting all your muscles relax. Your body needs the rest. Unfortunately stress and anxiety will shorten your life span dramatically, therefore it is so important that you learn how to control this. There are other options like yoga and meditation which I know most men would shudder at the the thought of, it's not exactly a manly kind of thing to do, but there are actually more men involving themselves in activities like that now. Anxiety is so common now that even countries like india have a fair amount of their population suffering. Something like 70% of the population in the u.S. And australia are now suffering anxiety to different degrees. The best thing you can do is get your families support and seek help from others.

Good luck

What's up?
Yea I agree with crystal chanda leir. Talking to a therapist will help because when you have someone to talk to to get everything out, it relieves a lot of stress. I posted this in another topic, but I started writing in a journal about 3 days ago, just my thoughts and fears, and things have gotten so much better in just that short amount of time. You'll be suprised how easily things pour out when you're depressed or anxious or stressed.

Check out the "i need some answers!" thread. There's lots of good advice, including that book by sam obitz. Feel free to email or pm if you need anything. Hope it all works out!
