Q: My Boyfriend Vomits Every Morning, Help!

When my boyfriend (25 yrs old)wakes up in the morning...He usually starts to cough. Not a deep cough...Like a smokers cough or anything. (he is a former smoker though). Then he runs to the bathroom to vomit. Usually it's just a clear mucus type of substance. He doesn't have health insurance and it really worries me. Any ideas what could cause this??

Could possibly be sinus drainage down the back of his throat causing him to be "gaggy" in the morning. When he starts coughing, and then if he has a sensitive gag reflex, that could cause him to throw up.

I have no illnesses, but I know if I cough hard, I will gag and throw up.

Boyfriend Vomiting
If your boyfriend if throwning up every morning he needs to be seen by a doctor soon. Tons of stuff could be wrong. I don't really see how your sinus's could make you throw up daily. When he is vomiting he is messing up his esophogus lining and not to mention the enamel on his teeth. He could end up with gerd aka heartburn. He may not have insurance but he can't afford to keep putting his health at risk. What's wrong with him going to city or county health clinic. I am a nurse and if one of patients was throwing up daily I would get to the bottom of it soon.

Yeah I think I have to agree with you here kparish, sounds kinda serious. Also you failed to mention other possible causes, has he started any new medications ? Is he currently taking anything ? Does he eat much late at night before going to bed ? Is he constipated or have dioreah ? Any abdominal pains ? How long has this been happening ?

Regards,

While I certainly agree that his throwing up is extreme and that he should see a doctor immediately!!!!!...

It is most certainly possible for a sinus infection with overnight drainage to cause morning vomiting. I know. I did it for almost a month.

Still, even if it is just a sinus infection, he is going to need antibiotics to clear it up. Thus, he needs to go to the doctor. It really is the only pragmatic thing to do.

Hope things get better,
