Q: Can chronic sinusitis cause jaw bone pain? Daily pain meds.
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 27th, 2007
What I am really curious about is that my jaw has never been tender before, and I am just wondering how it fits into this mess.

This has probably been going on for about 2 months now. I have had problems with my sinuses before. One year took 3 months and 5 different antibiotics before we found something that worked.

Trying many antibiotics in a short period of time for an uncertain diagnosis is not recommended. Headache, face pain and sore throat are not always signs of sinusitis. Sinusitis has to be confirmed by an ENT-examination. An X-ray image of the sinuses and microbiological smear taken from the nose and throat can be also performed in addition to a visual examination. Further, pain in the jaw bone is not very typical during sinus inflammation. Jaw bone pain can be also due to a tooth/teeth disorder, neuralgia or TMJ-syndrome. You can consult an ENT-specialist and dentist about your problem. In the mean time you may use some non-opiate painkillers (aspirin, ketoprofen, ibuprofen, diklofenak…) to temporarily relieve the pain you are experiencing.
