Blood Pressure Monitoring During Pregnancy Posted: 04-27-07 19:31pm
I am an Industrial Design student
currently doing a project on designing a
blood pressure monitor for pregnant
women.
As my lecturer advised me how vital it is
for those who are pregnant to constantly
monitor their blood pressure I have
decided to focus on this market.
So my question is how often is it
necessary to take blood pressure readings
for women during pregnancy? My mother has
high blood pressure and she does it 2 to 3
times a day, some say it's paranoia but
then again I suppose it's all dependent on
how serious your condition is.
I have done a bit of research and I
understand sometimes doctors provide their
patient with an ambulatory monitor to wear
for 24 hours and then bring back the
results for analysis. However I am looking
at more so monitoring during the entire
course of pregnancy.
Any ideas or suggestions would be very
much appreciated.

they checked mine at every appointment. in
the beginning the appointments are
monthly, then around 28-30 weeks they go
to every 2 weeks, then around 34-36 weeks
the appointments are weekly.

Thank you very much IHeartMyBostonTerrier.
Just one more query. Do you think it would
be necessary for women during pregnancy to
monitor their blood pressure more
regularly from home (perhaps on a daily
basis) if it was more convenient? Such as
an armband that would be comfortable and
portable enough which could be worn under
the sleeve discreetly. What are your
thoughts?
Many thanks!

they check mine everytime i go in,
supposed to be monthly but i always end up
going in before that! i don't think it
would be necessary to check it at home
unless the womans blood pressure was
rising or is already high to monitor it.
mine is always normal or more on the lower
side so for me to check it at home would
be a waste. but it might benefit some
people.
umm... i hope that helped..
