Q: How accurate is a CTscan of your abdomin and pelvis? IBS : c
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 26th, 2007
How accurate is a CTscan of your abdomin and pelvis? If all your organs were visible, like mine were. I worried about appendicitis and after a few monts my Dr ordered a CTscan of my abdomen and pelvis, and they said all my organs were normal and healthy. Also my appendix was visible and it was also normal size and healthy.

After 4 months of this odd pain in my lower right area (just mild sometimes its there others its not) Would the CT scan be accurate, and the IBS diagnosis be the right diagnosis?

Appendix, Appendicitis, Gallbladder Disorders Answer A2682
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder of the intestines, which means that no organic disorder of the digestive tract is present in the form of tumors, inflammations, congenital anomalies…etc . An IBS Diagnosis is established when all organic diagnosis are excluded. A CT-scan is one of the diagnostic procedures used for diagnosing such disorders, especially tumors. Disorders such as inflammation, however, can’t be diagnosed with CT-scan. this is why doctors use colonoscopies with biopsy to reveal chronic inflammation.
In your case the CT-scan, ultrasound and colonoscopy didn’t show anything abnormal. Therefore, you could be experiencing IBS.
