Weakness....sciatica???

I have this really weird problem. I have
been to my Dr. For it and he says I am
fine.
I guess I supposedly developed a pinched
nerve (sciatic?) in my lower back while I
was pregnant. The gross feeling I get
drives me crazy though. I get a really
weak tired feeling in both my arms and at
times my legs. I also get a bad achey
feeling in my left leg or my lower back.
I also get a feeling that I need to
stretch my muscles in my back in between
my shoulder blades. When I stretch as
hard as I can, it feels so good. I am a
big worrier and I have had anxiety about
my health for a long time now. Well, I
was convinced I must of had ms or some
other muscle disease, but my doc did that
tap test on my knees and elbows and said
all my reflexes were fine and that I
didn't have any of the other symptoms of
ms. I started seeing a chiropractor which
helped a great deal, but I need to know if
anyone can give me other exercises to do
to help.
Thanks!!!

Munoz,
as a parent you know that all this
worrying only makes you worse & it
can't be good for your baby!!
So one thing I do think you need to do is
relax (relaxation therapy can cover all
sorts of things) now since you also want
some pain relief etc & are asking for
exrcises how about combining the two
>>>> yoga &/or pilates
(you can buy a video on each & a mat
on the floor in front of the tv &
there you go your daughter(?) can join in
just for some fun with mum too) with some
meditation at the end of each set of
exercises. You choose which exercise you
do depending on your needs, time available
& so on.
Doing this will not only help pain wise
but also with stress & if you do it
with your baby you will also have extra
fun time together!!
How's your mum going by the way??

Thank you for replying. I have thought
about doing these both. I have tried
pilates in the past, but it was too hard.
I think yoga might be a really good idea.
I am going to try it.
My mom is okay. She still has my brother
living with her and it is very stressful
for her. I have talked to her numerous
times about kicking him out, but she feels
bad for his children.

Glad to hear your mum is ok, but sorry
that she hasn't either kicked your brother
out or gotten him & his g/f house
trained!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to admit that I haven't done
pilates but my daughter does it sometimes
although she started the yoga first. I
think though that with the toga you need
to start easy - like 1/2 hour max a day
which can be broken into 2, 15 min blocks.
You need to search abit to get a video
that is a starters one so that it's not
too strenuous (or if there's a yoga show
on tv that you could tape & use the
parts you found easy to do &
helpful).
My daughter likes the ones where about
5-10 minutes of actual yoga is followed by
a short relaxation/meditation exercise.
Both would be good for you, imho.

I have sciatica also. My relief has been
chiropractor, back support, walking, and
support a must!! Are you sitting in a
soft couch/chair? Driving in a soft
chair? I just got a back support and
ordered a ergonomic cushion which i'll put
under me where ever I go. I am now
getting much relief.

Wenron,
do you know what I am talking about when I
explain the weakness or tired feeling? I
seem to get it really bad when I get
stressed. Then that area of my back
begins t ache. I have horrible posture as
well. I sit very slouched which is bad
also.
Purple,
i so appreciate all your advice. I think
I will look into the yoga. I have tried
it once before in thepast and I like it,
but I was too busy to keep it up. I think
I did it like 2 times. I will keep you
posted.

Munoz,
tried it twice heavens you're as bad as
me!! Now get on & do it, I am right
about you having a young child aren't i?
Because you could both "do" the yoga &
have some special time together plus some
fun & laughter which in terms of
stress which you say makes the problem
(actually it makes most problems) worse
that would be as good a "medicine" as the
yoga itself. The yoga should (although
that erally depends on you) also help your
posture.
Have you considered though that maybe the
very busy life you lead may be making the
problem worse or even a partial cause of
it?? You mention that stretching helps
which makes me feel that you are on the
right track in asking about exercises.
I would also suggest that maybe some
research (google or yahoo?) as to
alternative medicines that might help -
they seem to be able to help anything
& they are how our ancestors managed
for thousands of years before big business
pharmaceutical companies got into it!!

Purple-
for some reason I have a really strange
feeling in between my shoulders and in the
area of the sciatic nerve that I need to
stretch. I lead a stressful life. I am
trying to calm it. I feel I make myself
stressed because my tolerance level is
very short. I am not sure why, but it is.
I am not violent or anything like that,
but I just seem to feel irritable most of
the time. I have been getting tension
headaches lately. My daughter's father
and I have been trying to make it work for
so long now and I really feel that is a
major issue. He is so immature a lot of
times and then other times I see such
potential in him. I told him we needed to
seperate for a bit and see what happens.
He really stresses me out though.
I definitely want to look into natural
healing. My mom's neighbors own a
holisitc store and they always try and
offer me stuff. I tried their remedy on
my little one when she was younger and had
colic. It worked.
I agree that my little one and I could
have a lot of fun doing yoga together. It
would be fun.
I will keep you all updated.

Munoz,
from what oyu've said in other posts I am
aware that you lead a very stressful &
very busy life, having your daughter's
father be a "man"!!! (now guys relax I
tell my son to say "women!) would
certainly make it all worse.
As to your tolerance level being low, has
it occurred to you that:
1) you are only human not superwoman!!
2) you have way too much on your plate for
one preson to handle!!
3) a young child can easily (no matter how
good) drive anyone to distraction!
4) the proiblems your mum is dealing with
affect you & cause stress especially
as she's so far away
5) your daughter's father, well
erlationship problems are srtessful anyway
but add a child into the mix & they go
crazy
6) you work & study on top of all this
now is it any wonder that you're gettting
stress headaches & other stress
related symptoms????!!!!
if there's no natural therapy/health
remedy shop near you(which I doubt) find
one on-line leforg.Com (life extension
foundation or biosynergy.Com are
starting places & get some stuff to
help you relax such as vitamin b's, same
(i can get you the full actual name but
here it's sold under same),
5htp(tryptophan).
Do some relaxation!!!!!!

Hello again....
I am exercising a little every night and I
just joined a fitness club to start
swimming and just exercise there too. I
went there last summer and I really felt
relaxed. My little one would swim in the
kiddie pool and I would just sit in there
and relax while she played.
I didn't know that vitamin b helped. I
will definitely try this then.
I really appreciate all your advice!

Vitamin b helps relax us as do those other
things I mentioned which I hope you check
out as they have made a huge difference to
my daughter - although she found out
yesterday that omega 3 fish oils (tablets
or via the actual fish) really help to get
the 5htp working properly. Also sam-e is
good for alot of things like arthritis,
liver etc as well as for reducing stress
so that might help with some of your other
problems.
Glad you're starting to do some stuff,
especially with your little one!!

I bought a women's multi-vitamin
yesterday. It has mutli vitamins and
minerals in it. Should that be enough or
should I also take a b vitamin alone
too?
I haven't actually been able to do the
yoga just yet. I have been really busy
with school and ths paper I have due in
about a week. It is a 7 page paer on
adhd. I have been swamped.
Thanks again!!

Munoz,
i think I need to come over there(wish I
had the $$) & mother you!! Honestly
you so remind me of me!! Not a good
thing, I am only now (i hope!!) starting
to learn that sometimes there aren't any
shortcuts, if we want to get better we
have to take the right road not the one
that seems easy.
You are a mother (busy!!) you are studying
& working (busy!!) you tend to worry
& concentrate too much on your health
(not helped by being a single parent who
therefore has to be healthy). So the idea
that you're stressed shouldn't be a
strange one to you or anyone else.
The question is do you want to raise your
little one in a stressed & medically
challenged environment (not to mention
probably making yourself sick at the same
time) or do you want to get better in
general, destress & raise a healthier,
happier little
one>>>>>>
if the latter then you need to make time
to relax (whether by yoga, swimming,
reading, knitting, walking in the park or
whatever) & you need to have a decent
healthy diet as well as the right
supplements. A general multiviatmin is
like having a spoon of peas a day &
saying that's enough vegetables when
you're suffering from a major deficiency
in whatever peas are good for??!!
Vitamin b aids (but is not sufficient for
someone with your history, in your
situation or with your stress) so please
please please at least look into on a
search engine: 5htp = 5
hydroxytryptophan and
same-e = (s)-s-adenosylmethlonine (comes
in 200 & 400mg) which my daughter
takes with a booster that comes with it
which contains folic cid plus vitamins b6
& 12.

Purple,
i am thinking of joining this church group
next sunday. It is at the preschool I
work in and the same preschool my little
girl goes to. I think I will put her in
sun. Scholl as well.
I will look up the two things you told me
about.
Thanks for being so great with advice!

No problems that's why we're here to help
each other.
The church group sounds like a good idea,
so long as you don't go overboard &
get too much work to do with it!!!! Your
little one will enjoy the kids play etc
& you get some adult time.
Good luck
