Q: Missed Period And Negative Result

i've been off birth control for about 4 months now and have still had fairly regular periods ever since. but this month i'm about 2 weeks late. i just did a home pregnancy test and it came up negative. the only thing i can think of that has been different was that i took a few days of sulfameth (which is a sulfer based antibiotic), but stopped because i started getting irritation under my arms and abnormal vaginal discharge. since i stopped taking the meds, everything has been fine until i realized my period was late. i'm thinking this is the reason for my missed period, but just want to know if anyone would know more info about that.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe that antibiotics affect your period. I recommend getting a blood test just to be sure. Are you trying to get pregnant?

FYI: what you were feeling while you were on the antibiotic may have been a yeast infection. That is very common when taking antibiotics. Next time drink lots of fluids that seems to help me avoid them while on antibiotics.

well i was just looking up some of the side effects and it said some things about not taking it if you are trying to get pregnant and stop using if you have vaginal irritation. i'm just thinking that if it has any sort of effect on your reproductive system that it could be the cause of a skipped period. i stopped taking it, one because i was getting skin irritation, and two it turned out that i didn't have an infection at all--the doc just didn't know what she was talking about. as for your other question, no i am definitely not trying to get pregnant. i have no other symptoms of a pregnancy other than a late period, so i was just thinking that those antibiotics were one thing that has been dramatically different since my last period. but then there is also a slightly higher stress level i suppose that may be contributing to it as well. regardless, i'm just relieved that i am not pregnant, but would still like to know why i'm so late.
