I have the Pulse Noise or "BRUIT" in my left ear. I have had this for 20 years. I deal with it by running a Fan in my room or using a "WHITE NOISE" machine that you can buy that replicates various constant background noises. This also has a timer that turns off after 1 hour to save power. The cause of my Ear Noise is a Dural Arteriovenous Malformation or AVM. 
These can be further researched on the WEB. Mine specifically is referred to as a Dural AVM Fistula. Not everyone has this severe of a problem, but a CT Scan can quickly rule this out.
