"injured" Foot

Wondering if anyone knows the medical term for what I did to my foot... I've got pain right between my big toe and the toe next to that. When I first injured my foot, there was also pain at the top of my foot.

In short, there was an emergency, and wearing a cheap pair of shoes, took off running. When I stopped, my left foot was in pain. This happened May 15th, 2006. The pain was pretty bad and I had troubles walking for a few weeks after... and it wasn't until October of 06 that the pain went away.. but I do think wearing a pair of Saucony's Hurricane Style footware (for a few months-got them after the injury) helped as well. Well, January of 07, was wearing a new pair of shoes, and was just running around with my dog. While running, I experienced that all too familiar pain yet again... and am now back into my Saucony's (which by the way need to be replaced... with a newer pair).

I would have gotten it checked out, however for the fact that it was considered a "minor injury", and nothing to worry about... and without my own transportation had to suffer... I have found out however that if I pop my big toe, as well as the joint for the big toe in the ball of the foot, and the next toe over, that it helps relieve pain within the area, making it easier to walk.

My first thoughts were a pinched nerve between my big toe and the one next over. My thoughts are still the same, as I can't figure out what else it could be... I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through this, or if someone may know the medical term so I can learn more about it.
