Any help for me???
I do not perceive anyy smell from my nose, I only feel a very bad taste in my mouth and have the feeling my breath stinks. I swallow but always feel like there is something in the back of my throat. I honestly spend up to 30 minutes every morning tryng to clean my teeth, nose and throat with tooth paste and lots of listerine but I think mouth wash makes de smell stronger. Could my problem be something different than sinus since there is no sign of bad smell from my nose?????

Could be a sinus infection - or tonsil stones. check youtube out REMOVING TONSIL STONES. I have a tiny hole in the back of my throat on the left. Every so often I see this little white particle there. You can remove them with a q tip but gag reflex makes it tricky. They have a foul foul odour and I'm sure they cause bad breath. I'm having an issue right now but not tonsil stones. I feel like I have really terrible breath and its so embarassing!

I have had a bad breath and dental problems my whole life, even though I take very good care of my teeth. About 6 months after I quit smoking, I really started to notice a foul taste, which continued to get worse. I saw 2 doctors & 3 dentists. The second doctor gave me prilosec without even looking in my mouth, and the dentists did a bunch of unnecessary procedures in attempts to get rid of this sour, awful taste in my mouth. It was literally making me sick. I continued to research this for the next year, and came across tonsilloliths (tonsil stones). I decided to check the back of my throat with a flash light, and low & behold, I had a bunch! I continued to poke around and realized that my tonsil crypts were very deep, and I also had embedded stones. There are many reasons for tonsil stones, and one is tooth extraction. Enamel can start to form in your crypts, along with food particles, bacteria, and sulphur (rotten eggs) compounds. I saw an ENT and am having a tonsillectomy in a few weeks!! I can't wait! You can pick these stones out all you want, but the only way to get rid of the halitosis is by having a tonsillectomy.

rotten smell/taste
I also suffer from this rotten but sweet smell/taste. I had it many years ago before I had my tonsils removed. I also had these califlower like rotten growths on my tonsils. Tonsils were removed, taste and smell were gone. Until this last november when I got a head cold, which I am still suffering from, 3 antibiotics and nothing has worked but a simple neti pot which only lasts for a day or so. I see the ear nose and throat doc the 19th, praying there is some relief. My cold that restarted the taste/smell was a fast onset with nasal congestion(sinus infection), ear infections, swollen glands and jaw stiffness, cough, spots in my lungs. I like some of you also thought maybe my teeth were involved and went to the dentist, got a root canal found out the tooth I was complaining of was already dead, not the problem. So I'm 2 weeks away from my appt with the doc and I'm anxious. I haven't tasted anything different since Thanksgiving and it makes me nausious and depressed. I know my regular doc said that when my tonsils were removed they had also scrapped my adnoids and it may need to be redone. It's an awful process but at this point I'll do what I have to to get my taste buds back and this smell gone. Wish me luck I'm hoping its not a cyst or tumor. for those of you that can't get in to a specialist try purchasing a NETI POT, it is only a temporary solution, but after long periods of time is supposed to be very beneficial. I've only had mine for 2 weeks but it seems to be working~Molly, ps I'll try to update after my appt

Foul odor/taste everytime I get a sinus infection
I have the foul odor/taste and I seem to get it everytime I get a sinus infection. I ran a course of Augmentin a few weeks ago and it seemed to clear up. Now it's back, as is the sinus pressure and yellowish/green mucus. I can sniff quick and hard and it goes in my throat which I can then spit out. Very gross and annoying. Going to try some homeopathic stuff I read up on. Will post back if any success.

All you people need to quit freaking out and get on some antibiotics. IT'S A SINUS/NASAL INFECTION. Go to the doctor and get on some strong antibiotics and take long hot showers, tipping your head back every now and then to let the water get into your nose...then blow it out. Swimming in a chlorinated pool would help too. Infections hate chlorine. :v)

Halitosis, tonsilar crypts, sinusitis.
First of all, I know how it feels and tastes: rotten. I had my tonsils out 12 years ago and never looked back, but last week, the taste is back. It is emanating from the right bottom side of my throat and is accompanied by mild localized pain in that area. It feels very much like what I used to have with my tonsils intact. It is very annoying and uncomfortable in a number of ways.

But when I read this forum, I see two groups of people here: 1. People who clearly have the tonsilar crypts/sinus infection, and 2. Other (which may include cysts, dental problems, GERD, and whatever else).

So... I wanted to say that don't worry!!! Yes, it is disturbing, but freaking out about it will do absolutely nothing to help you. Instead, start rinsing with a salt/water combination or a mouth wash (preferably alcohol based), or have your dentist call in a Peridex (chlorhexadine)rinse. That stuff keeps killing and, as far as I know, nothing's developed any resistance to it. Secondly, make an appt with your PCP or an ENT to rule out anything more serious. I plan to do a course of amoxicillin or augmentin. If that doesn't work, ENT, here I come!

Good luck everyone!

Foul taste in mouth after sinus infection
Is anyone on a cpap machine. I know mine is from a sinus infection but I believe that the cpap machine could prolong it or it could be the reason that I had a sinus infection to start with. I think the pressure from the mask could cause sinus to close some. I have never had a sinus infection before.

Foul taste in mouth, foul smell in nose, sinusitis
On Monday, May 2, 2011 I awoke with an obvious sinus infection. I had the pressure, stuffy nose, post nasal drip etc. However, this time I had the foulest smell and taste ever. I thought a sewer line had burst in the house and was on my hands and knees seeking the source. Problem is everywhere I went I found the foul odor. Then I coughed, and boy oh boy, did I want to just fall out and die. I tasted like what I can only imagine poop would taste like. My kids thought one of the babies had pooped. It was awful.

By Monday at noon I realized I was dealing with a serious infection and made a few of my tea concotions. Later that evening (7:00pm) and several cups of tea later, my symptoms had subsided. The pain was relieved. The foul taste and smell had "lightened". Tuesday, I felt like a new woman. Still had a little post naasal drip and mucous, but continued with my teas.

Today is Wednesday. My nose is completely dry. Only have a little bit of post nasal drip and a few dry heave coughs. The only thing that is concerning is the my head aches. I am hoping it because of the dry heaving.

I am scared as all get out because I have been hospitalized on two separate occasions due to sinusitis. Last time it lead to meningitis.

Below is the regiment I started on Monday:

Regiment:

Any herbal tea with the following:
2 drops of Neem Extract (very bitter)
5 drops of Cinnamon
2 drops of Echinacea
Sweeten to taste. If I could find my Grapefruit Seed Extract I would have used it as well as Olive Extract.

I drank the teas 4 - 5 times a day.

Twice daily I have been drinking Braggs Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, raw honey and water(make sure the water is below 100 degrees).

Hope this helps. My symptoms are almost completely gone. On a scale of 1 - 10 I am experiencing symptoms at 1/2.

Severe Sinus Infection and Meningitis
Damn! I didn't realize a sinus infection could turn into meningitis! I have had this horrid infection on and off for over 5 weeks, and it moved into my ear and neck, and I wondered for one moment if I wasn't getting meningitis. Damn! I finally got some strong antibiotics 3 days ago, as much as I hate taking them, I figured it was the only way out of this horrible bacterial infection in my left sinus. If after 10 days it's not better, I better go and have my sinus xrayed to make sure there's nothing more serious. I have had low grade fever with it on and off, and of course the horrid smell and thick green/yellow mucous. I hate it! I have gone through so many boxes of Kleenexes.

I am having very similar problems. You nailed it! I'm on Flonase and Augmentin right now. This is day 6 of Augmentin and still the foul odor. This is so sad. I know how this has effected your personal life as well as mine. I noticed this post was just over a year ago. I was wondering how you are doing at this point? (Hopefully well) Could you please e-mail me and let me know what has happened since this post? Thank you!

Sinus Infection with foul smell and taste!
I have a sinus infection and am taking Clarithromycin(500mg)(allergy to Penicilin) twice a day for 3 days now. I had no cold prior to infection but I did wear myself out in a fight where I was being restrained and flipped out screaming for about an hour. So I have deduced that by exhausting my body I allowed bacteria to take hold. I do have rotting teeth and am waiting on quote from dentist to have them pulled.
So my question is this...If my immune system is down and I finish all the antibiotic will the rot in my mouth just start growing bacteria again and cause another infection?
I also have blown so hard that where there was a hole from my sinus to the top of my mouth when I had a teeth pulled years ago that was healed over is now is now open so the foul mucus is now draining in to my mouth and pooling in my denture plate!! GROSS

Bad Taste in mouth for 6 years!
I have had a bad taste in my mouth for the past 6 years. I've been to dentists, doctors, ETN specialist and no solution. Mine comes and goes and I think it had something to do with my sinuses as I often get it when I smell something strong or blow my nose hard etc. but sometimes it just appears out of the blue too. One day I got it while I was studying on my bed and it really pissed me off so I hang off my bed (upside-down) and when I got back up it was gone. So from now on I just do like a hand stand and the bad taste goes away. Annoying I know but I have no other choice as nothing and no one helped!

OMG! This is exactly the same as me....smell and taste altered when sniff up hard or sometines it comes unannounced...ruing my life...put up with this for 8 years!! I too hang my head pside down which causes my eyes to bulge but stops it...over the years it has become much more difficult to get rid of it using this method...thus leaving me with permanent eye babgs....under my eyes are really swollen. So glad i found this thread as trying to explain my condition to anyone, let alone a doctor is near enough impossible. Now iv seen this i am going to my doctor and asking to be referred to a specialist ASAP!

acrid smell in the nose
I'm on 6 years now with the occasional burnt smell in my nose. Sometimes cigars or perfumes will trigger it and it will stay for several days. Over the past year however, the problem has subsided - until this past week. 3 days now and I have a really acrid sense of smell and possibly, possibly a bad taste in the back of my throat which really is a first for this issue. My eyes are actually burning which is odd. I'll see what happens and go in to the doc next monday if it doesn't go away. No stuffy nose but a slight occasional headache which 'could' indicate a sinus issue.

Bad ashtray smell in nose that only I can smell!
2.00 last Thursday I suddenly became aware of an acrid smell that seemed to me must be a plastic covered component smouldering away in my computer or screen. An hour or so later when on hands an knees I had explored every possible source of smouldering fire hazard on the ground floor I pretty much gave up and decided I must have breathed something in and I must wash it out. Sadly this didn't work. My partner smells nothing. I now realise this is in my nose as several days have passed-I smell it where ever I am -it now also appears to be coming from my throat and is making chest feel tight. My nose is not smelling-it is I alone who can detect this strange hideous smell that I now decide is more like the the blackened oily chemical ridden remains of a badly un-washed pub ashtray. LUSH...I have been to the doctors-she thinks I have thrush in the mouth and has given me an anti fungal-it remains to be seen if it will work-the medication seems a bit pitiful an orange flavour Daktarin gel, when I feel I need nothing short of Pine flavour bleach or any heavy duty toilet disinfectant will do. Spookily I also had a tooth/jaw/gland infection end of November and lots of antibiotics -resulting in root canal in December, lots of injections which I didn't get on with and general misery and pain. Probably its all connected. Also I'm a regular taker of Ventolin and Avamys (fluticasone furoate). If the sweetie flavour gel works I'll let you know-pigs may fly and all that!

Disgusting smell in nose
wow . . I woke up this morning after a few days with a mild cold (I kept this at bay with olive leaf extract and homeopathics remedy) But today my nose smells / throat ? like cheap chocolate in a bad way. Better than most of you guys experience I admit. But still sickening and annoying. So i agree it seems to be related to sinus or tonsils. So I am going to gargle and snort sea salt water and sniff peppermint and tea tree essential oil mist Plus i may place one drop of peppermint ess oil under my nose in that little valley above the lips. Good luck everyone. Hope yr smelling roses soon.

Bad taste in mouth
I've had a horrible taste in my mouth for about a month now. It comes and goes, worse as the day goes on. I saw an ENT doc yesterday. He seemed familiar with the problem and diagnosed me with acid reflux. This is when the valve between your stomach and your esophagus gets a little floppy, thus not doing its job of keeping icky food acid where it belongs. It kind of wicks up through the esophagus. Ick. He prescribed something like prilosec that reduces the stomach acid. I hope this works. Will report as time passes.

I am experiencing the same bad smell and earlier with the bad taste but mainly just the smell right now. All started in Oct with a terrible cold/flu which lasted for well over a month. A long term ongoing tooth problem finally flare up at the same time. Migraines, eyes and slight ear ache on one side were also symptoms. After the flu dissipated I went to dentist who fixed my molar with a root canal. Took about 4 weeks with 4 visits total to finish the root canal. Around that time I began to notice the bad smell/taste. Like the other guy mentioned, it really reminds me of bad burnt roasted peanuts or rancid peanut butter or more vaguely of sulphury boiled eggs. The smell comes and goes for several days now a month on. The flem/phlem is not so bad now(originally strong yellow/green color) and the bad taste is more or less gone now. Just the same strong smell keeps coming back. My girlfriend cannot smell it at all on my breath close up so that's a god send at least. Looks like it must be a sinus infection from the flu and bad root canal. I will try an anti biotic and aromatheraphy if it persists, but it does seem to be getting better, very slowly but surely, on it's own.
