Q: Foul Taste And Smell?

A little less than a week ago I woke up with a migraine and a REALLY foul taste at the back of my throat and smell in my nose. The migraine went away in a day, but the taste/smell is still there. It smells rather like a rotten potato, and tastes the way I would imagine a rotten potato to taste. A friend said that it might be a cavity, so I have a trip to the dentist planned next week, but I'm wondering if it might be some sort of sinus infection, since I occasionally have to blow my nose and there's a thick milky pale yellowish-green fluid coming out. Every time I blow my nose, it smells like someone is shoving a rotten potato into my face, so I can't tell if the smell is coming from the fluid I blew out or not. I've been brushing like crazy and rinsing with Listerine, but that doesn't make the taste go away completely, and it keeps coming back.

Can anyone help? I'm almost scared to go to the dentist only to find that he can't fix it.

Foul smell & taste
I have this every time I have the flu or a terrible cold. Nobody knows what I am talking about...
As you described, its a foul taste in the mouth and smell of a foul odor. This is the third time I have experienced this--I think it goes away after a week or two...it sucks.. but on the bright side, iced cream tastes & smells good. Smile

bad tast and smeel in mouth and nose
I have experianced this for about 2 years and finally got a referal to an ear nose and throat sugen. I had cat scan of my face done and they said that I have sist under my left eye in the sinus passage that is always draining into my throat. Its not fatal but sure is bothersome. remedy to help flushing the nose with sea salt water, over the counter drugs to help dry up the sinus. The only kind of prsription that has ever worked to cure it for more then one month is the antibiotec (Augmenton) Im not sure how to properly sell the name. And to me its smells like burnt penut butter. Really gros I know I hope this hels you folks out there. Sorry about the spelling and grammer errors writting is not my strongest side of me.

Bad taste and smell in mouth and nose
I have a constant odour in my right-hand sinus with associated bad taste; my normal smell and taste of food etc is not effected.
It is a bitter taste/smell not very pleasant, although I am getting used to it, but some days it seems worse than others.
It started over 18 months ago and my GP prescribed various antibiotics and nasal sprays all to no effect. I was then sent to the hospital and the consultant tried more powerful antibiotics, still with no positive results so I then had a CT scan, which showed an infection deep in the sinus near to the nerve from the eye.
Therefore surgery took place to open up the airways by removing some bone and they scraped away as much of the infection as possible, the idea being that the extra passage of air would heal the remaining infection.
Eight months later there has been no real improvement, I still have this odour and horrible taste, if I only breathe through the LH side there is no smell, so it definitely comes from the right sinus.
At my last visit to the hospital in February I was told that there was no more help that they could offer and that I would just have to live with it, which is a bit depressing.
Can anyone suggest any help for this condition?
I do take Simvastatin and Micardis Plus daily, but as far as I'm aware they are not the cause.

Bad taste and smell in mouth and nose
I have this trouble also. I think food gets stuck in a pollop like thing in the throat. The food then rots and makes for bad taste and smell. It dose pass when the food gets unstuck. This is no fun.

Rotten smell in nose and mucous following a sinus infection
I am certain aftr reading about a dozen blogs on a foul rotten smell in the nose and mucous from the nose accompanied by on and off sinus pain and I am certain it is causeded by a sinus infection. It occurred right after a head cold (which may have just been a sinus infection. I still have it but but I am going to follow the advice and flush my nose with salt water using a nasal spray and if it doesn't go away get antibiotics from a doc. It really does sounds like a sinus infection.
