Hysterectomy Answer A2663
D&C is an abbreviation for "dilatation and curettage". Dilatation is performed on the cervical canal to allow the instrument that performs the curettage to pass. Curettage is a procedure for removing the uterus’s inner layer (endometrium). A hysterectomy is surgical removal of the uterus. If you intend to have a hysterectomy, you probably won't need a D&C.
