Q: Breakthrough Bleeding

i've been on ortho try-cylen lo going on 9months. I've never had a problem wth breakthrough bleeding. I've always had my periods a day or 2 before the placebo pills. Last month i was 4 days into the placebo pills and i started my period, late wed night, (that made me nervous to say the least) my period lasted until sunday only 4 days. 11 days into my new pack of pills i started some light bleeding, this is the 2nd day of it. Do i need to worry?
Since i've never had breakthrough bleeding when i started the pills i thought i was over the 3 month window of breakthrough bleeding. I took a pregnancy test when i was later than normal in getting my period, 2 weeks ago, and it was negative then, could i be pregnant now? I do have unprotected sex with my bf a 4-5 times a week. I take an herbal multi vitamin, glucosame, diretic, and migrane med when needed. I've had 2 cold in the past 2 months, i've taken cold eez, sudafed, and nasal spray. Could being sick have an effect? Any suggestions please?

I would test again, and then call your doctor and discuss what you've been going through. The symptoms certainly are interesting, especially the fact that you get your period while still on active pills. That could mean they aren't working as well as they should... But maybe not.

Thanks for your suggestion! I took a test and it was negative. I called my doc and he said since the test was neg to just wait it out and see if next month i have any breakthrough bleeding again and then he might switch to different pills. I forgot to ask, though, how long can i breakthrough bleed until its serious? Like in a week or longer? i'm already going on 4 days now, it is just a light bleed but still it's unusual. Would it stop before my period even and if it doesnt should i call my doctor again? i hate to keep calling them because they're going to think i'm a overracting nut! It's already hard enough to call and just ask a question since they never call you back!

If it is a light bleed then you could literally bleed every day for years - I know of women who have done this on bcp's.
