Hello all,

My question has to do specifically with the Loestrin 24 pill. I have been on it for about 6 months now and have had some problems. This isn't my first time on the pill(previously used ortho-lo) so it's not that I don't know how it works. My main concern is that although my period has decreased in amount, it's now down to barely spotting. I am sexually active and use condoms as another form of birth control, yet I still get scared. Is anyone else on Loestrin 24 that could offer some advice? Do you experience the same low periods?

Also, would anyone recommend another type of pill?

Thanks!

Loestrin can make your period decrease or go away. I have had this experience with other kinds of birth control, and I just started loestrin and my doctor warned me. If you freak out too much when you don't get your period, (which is understandable) you can talk to your doc about switching to something that still makes you get your period.

.loestrin 24 is supposed to lower your periods amount and severity. .many women actually stop having a period at all and that is normal as well. .if you want to ease your mind take a pregnancy test just to make sure but .i highly doubt you are pregnant. .my experiences have been good so far with this pill (loestrin 24), but with ortho lo .i had tons of breast soreness and really bad mood swings.

Loestrin 24
I went from HEAVY, PAINFUL 7-9 day periods to nice light to moderate flow 3 day period since starting Loestrin 24 Fe 9 months ago. I have never missed a period myself since starting but since my body naturally has such a heavy flow I'm not surprised. I have heard of women not getting their period on this pill and although that is not the INTENTION of this pill it's certainly not an impossibility especially if your natural flows aren't all that severe. I personally love Loestrin for myself.... I had HORRIBLE PMS symptoms before it and now I'd say 3/4 of that is gone. Also NO weight gain which I was concerned about. Actually, I LOST over 10 pounds since starting it, go figure! My advice as a nurse, with any pill, be religious about taking it, don't smoke and make sure your docs know about this pill when putting you on any other meds, especially many antibiotics as this can reduce the effectiveness of your Loestrin. Good luck with it!

The pill makes some people gain weight. Other people don't gain any weight. I didn't. Don't stop taking the pill unless you are experiencing debilitating side effects that you can't deal with.

Re:
What is the difference between Loestrin 24 and Loestrin 21? My doctor prescribed me Loestrin 21 FE 1.5/30 just yesterday though I still have one more month of Ortho Lo to finish before that.

Is the difference just that Loestrin is a 24 active pills, 4 inactive pills, and Loestrin 21 is 21 days of active pills, 7 inactive?

I'm trying to find as much about this pill as I can before I start on it.

I really kind of wanted Yaz but was prescribed Loestrin 21 instead.
