Q: Pain Before Going to Toilet

Hi,

I have an occasional problem that happens right before I need to go to the rest room. Sometimes I'll have this intense, spasm like pain in my rectal region which comes in slowly, hurts pretty bad for about 3 seconds, and then slowly fades out. I have to stand still and let it pass before I do anything else.. I also notice:

1. It only happens when I'm standing, never seated
2. It almost always occurs right as I enter my bath room. If I've been holding it then it might happen outside, and then several times as I look for a stall, but this is very rare. (its happened maybe twice) Because it seems to happen right as I come to the bathroom I think it may be caused mentally (as I'm ready to go)
3. When I do my business there is no pain at all.

I'm 21 and in good health, eat well and go to the gym regularly. The pains happen maybe once a month as I'm going to the rest room. It only happens if I feel I need to go but delay it a bit (maybe an hour because I'm working on something) I don't think holding for just an hour should cause spasms like that though. I use the bath room on a regular basis and certainly don't make a habit of holding it in. Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks

My guess is that it's Hemorrhoids. I have had the exact same symptoms. I would go to a Dr so they can check it out and make sure it is nothing more serious. Your Local pharmisist should be able to give you something to help.

Good Luck

Hi
Hi, There is a muscle back there(sfinxter) not sure of the spelling that can have spasms. I would not agree on hemorrhoids. They do not cause spasms. My physican told me to try to go to the restroom the same time everyday. Are you getting enough roughage/fiber inyour diet and drinking plenty of water? You may need to not try to hold it at all and just let nature call when it does. This holding it may be whats causing this muscle to contract and cause you pain????? Hope you get better soon! Cool
