Q: Question Re Stroke

I have a microangiopathy disease. in which a genetic defect causes the walls of micro vessels deep in the brain to fail, and the result is a lack of oxygen in the nerves which causes nerve death. What is the process of oxygen transferrence from blood vessels to nerves, how does that work? Do the nerves pick up needed oxygen through portals like they do with neurotransmitters?
