Q: Hip Pain And Acupuncture

Hi! I am a 24 year old female and I suffer from terrible hip pain and sciatica. I also have scoliosis and a metal plate and 8 screws in my right femur. I am on methadone as a painkiller, and it works to a point, but some days I can not get rid of the pain. I am also taking bextra as an anti-inflammatory, and zanaflex as a muscle relaxor.

I have signed up for acupuncture, but have yet to get an appointment. Does anyone out there know about the process of acupuncture - like what exactly they will do to me? - how long will it take for results? And how often will I need to go for treatments?

I am hoping that this might be the answer for me, as I have been dealing with chronic pain for years now, and I am only 24! It has come to the point where the medicine alone is just not cutting it and I am ready to try some alternative kinds of pain management.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for ways to relieve this pain? If you can help please post me a message!

Thank you!! Sad

Extremely eHealthy
My problems started at age 10 & operations at 14 i'm now 48 so I know about pain, medications, accupuncture (it didn't work for me but I know others for whom it has worked). I do think that you are way too young to be on methadone aside from rotting your teeth it is an alternative to heroin etc.

My advice would be to look for some natural medications such as high doses of calcium, same - maxx combined with tlc tablets, also a combined tablet of glucosamine (say 750mg) & chondroitin (say 600mg). These will all help the pain although they may take abit longer to get into your system to take up the fight than traditional meds but they will work longer with fewer side effects. There are of course others so a couple of ways to find them would be to check out on-line pharmacies, check out what i've suggested on a search engine & again on a search engine check on altrenative pain remedies for sciatica, scoliosis etc.

A good site is life extension foundation (or organization) they sell stuff but have alot of great information as well. Also try natural & alternative clinicians/therapies in your phone book.

Listen to me carefully
I was in your shoe and bed ridden. I am not even going about to talk about the pain, you know the deal. They will only put in about 3 or 4 hair thin needles using a small plastic tube that pressed aginst your skin to have an anastehtic effect. The most important needle wole be L54 with is on the buttocks area, a few by the side of the hips and they will work down the leg as time goes by to release to tightened muscle. it is not painful, and barely felt. on the contrary, you will feel pain free for the first time even after only the first needle. After that you will feel very comfortable and even get "addicted/looking foward to every coming visit. Don't miss a single minute more. Remember, the point on the buttoks, side of the cheek in the middle, the top, slightly let of both cheeks(outwards). On the side, about the head of the femur. Gosh!!! you are missing too much of your life. The needles will be left for about 20 minutes adn then removed. YOU WILL GET ABOUT 50% of the pain gone or more even after tha first session and and remain that way for a week or so. Write to me if you need help.
