Hi,
i had my first seizure at 5 yrs old( but i would also fall asleep any where even while walking and still walk don't know if that is linked) and was put on medication, i had a couple of seizure from 5 to 6 and a half when we moved cities. I then had no seizures in the new house but stayed on that yucky medicine till i was 8 or 9.

Went back to the doctor who told me to stop the medication and go enjoy my life. i'm now 26( born 1980 and had first seizure in 1985 and last in 1986-7) and i'm wondering if i have to worry about it coming back?

Also do i have to avoid products, vitamins and medications that have the warnings about not to be used by people with epilepsy? and do i still class myself as epileptic?

thank you

Hi
I am by no means a physican, but I would think once you have had a seizure, or several, there is always a possiblity of you having another? Maybe this is not true. Not sure if its like Asthma, I had this severely as a child, attacks and breathing treatments, yet as I grew older teens and thru my forties, it was gone. Aproaching the big 50 and now I am wheezing again. If I were in your shoes, knowing the history you have with the seizures, I would not take the chance and I would treat myself as if I were an epileptic. By going against and denying that you can possibly have another epilepsy attack, that would be kinda scarry? Am I making sense? Look this up on WebMD! Epilepsy is termed a chronic disease of the nervous system, thus the word chronic, meaning lasting a long time. Compared to Acute, which woulddescribe a conditions as short termed. Hope I've been of some help! Rolling Eyes

stacey the chances are significally increased if you both have epilepsy that the child would have it but you can never know for sure if your child will get it

it could be born normally or it could have the condition.. no way to know for sure

Hi
Hi Again, not really up to date on epilepsy, I would suggest you talk to a physican or someone who is more educated on this topic, also look up on www.webMD. Lots of info here. I do not see why you could not learn to drive. I bet there are zillions of people who have this, under control by meds I would imagine, that are out there in the world driving today. You said you had not had an episode in years....whose to say you never have another one? You have to live life Girlfriend! Sometimes you just have to do things differently! I'd say go for the learning to drive! Laughing

I'm epileptic too here is a tip
I had epilepsy since I was 13 years old.
30 Years back an foward I took epamin in Mexico I stared 1 at morning, 1 at night then I incresed until 4 in the morning an 4 at night I was getting tired of it.
Never increse you pill dose, unless your dupervised by a doctor.
No Alcohol.
No cigarretes.
No coffee.
I'm 49 years old But now I stop the medicine like 3 or 4 years a go but I increse the alcohol drinking and then when I stop drinking alcohol the chances of having a Epileptic Seizure increse for sure, so no good to over drink alcohol to control epilepsy that's the worse.
8 months a go I start doing marijuana o my god tell you the truth If I knew how to control this drug before and I never drink alcohol I would never got in to so much trouble because we are different than normal people... men that's so good. I stared little by little until I found the right dose or amount where I don't feel drowsiness and out of line sometimes I feel drowsiness in the first 20 minutes or 1/2 an hour and then evreything is just normal and at night I can sleep like a baby because I was having a lot of trouble to sleep at this age everything worries me even the smallest thing.
Try to do it the safest way for your lungs and check them frecuently but no only can be smoked you can do it with butter, te, eat. Several ways where you can be safe and enjoy life.Is a lots of information on internet and get a license and check your local state laws.
If you like it you can grow it and it won't cost you almost nothing.
I also have cirguries in my body an a cronic pain from neck to scapula.
So don't feel guilty and try to enjoy life in a safe way and feel happy my friend.......relax and peace to your soul.
Enjoy the smallest things in life.
Be honest with you and people around you and you will sleep like a baby...............good dreams.
