hello im 18 years old and ive been using smokeless tobacco for about a year and a half. ive had a hard painless lump in my neck fairly circular and quarter sized under my right ear near my lymph node for a couple months now. im concerned that it is cancer...so i went to my doctor who decided it was from a skin inflammation behind my ear that drained down there causing a lump. im not so sure...can i develop cancer after 1 and 1/2 years of use? what should i do? i dont have pain swallowing and can move my tongue easily dont have bumps in mouth problems breathing headaches etc...

If your worried i would seek a second opinion. Dont tell the second Dr what the 1st Dr said just see if they make the same diagnosis. Better to check than worry yourself.

Good Luck

Hi concerned,

I agree with Natalie. And stop usiong tobacco products of any kind. It's foolish, idiotic and dangerous. If you need help stopping, do some volunteer work at a local cancer ward and see people dying horrible deaths--people just like you who started using "harmless" tobacco products. You're brave for posting your fears here. You deserve a long life, man.

Hello,

although I agree with the tobacco part, that it is foolish and so on, you know the song, please remember that people who never smoked or chewed have got cancer. Not all cancers are cause by cigarettes. Actually, most people have the cancer gene. Some develop and some don't. Like you have been suggested, get a second opinion without mention of the first and let us know. It's not because you chew tobacco that you will or won't get cancer. If it is that close to the ear, it could be even an infection in the gland also. Good luck.......
