There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to make this desicion.
At 18 weeks, all studies so far show that the fetus does not feel pain. At 18 weeks, I believe the safest and quickest way is th surgical abortion. They will dialate the cervix by a few centimeters (no where near how far it goes at birth!) and go in with curettes to remove the fetus and clean the uterus. There may be cramping for you during this, but I believe that anesthesia is available in some places.
