I was taken advantage of by a medical doctor in search of a cheap thrill.

Recently I underwent surgery and while coming out of anesthesia divulged private information about myself, subconsciously, to my surgeon, stating that I was a graduate of The Citadel (The Military College of South Carolina) and had also served in Iraq.

On a post-operative visit to the surgeon's office he blocked my exit from the room and demanded that I engage him in a physical fight. The only other person in the room was his wife, who also a nurse -- however, she refused to interfere and wouldn't not restrain her husband.

When I declined the doctor's challenge, he stated that I had no choice -- that I would either fight him or that he would "break" my "spirit" the same way the spirit of an animal is broken, using a professional technique that he knew of.

I could have easily floored the doctor but didn't want to risk a lawsuit or potential arrest, which I knew would most likely ensue if I forcibly shoved him away from the door to get out of the room.

Because he was blocking the door, I had no choice but to submit to the doctor's attempt to break my spirit. For over an hour he yelled the word "no" in an extremely derogatory, belittling, commanding and aggressive way, utilizing various patterns mimicking the chopping down of trees and the snapping of ropes.

The doctor wallowed in his verbal abuse until he detected signs of my resistance wearing down and finally giving out. Throughout the course of his abuse he would run at me like an enemy soldier carrying a grenade.

At the completion of this abuse he told me that I would never get up again. I felt completely de-powered. My confidence level and ability to function in all aspects of life were severely impaired.

I am not sure what to do about this. I am looking for a medical professional to explain to me what it means to "break the spirit" of a human or animal and how this can be remedied.
