Miguel is going to get a job with the iron worker's union (doesn't start until august) which means when he starts as an apprentice he'll make $16 an hour and by the time he finishes his 3 year apprenticeship he'll make $25 an hour. Yay for friends in the labor union! So pretty soon our money woes will be over and if I keep working and saving my money then we'll be pretty cozy. Now to my question. I should probably not start ttc till we've got our bank account back up to a couple k in savings, right? And when we start should I try for a boy or a girl? Cuz I don't think we're going to move for another year or two and if i have a boy I can put him in the same room as Chu. But I would really rather have a girl and if we have #2 and it's a boy, I don't think I can talk dh into a 3rd go round...

Wow! Congrats on .miguels job! that should take away a lot of stress. I agree, I'd wait until your bank account gets up there at least a little bit. So maybe try in about 6 months, since ttc usually takes a little time....then once you get pregnant, you'll have those 9 months to get settled into a new place.

i don't think boys and girls sharing rooms matter when they're little.

how are you going to try for a girl?

I read in a book by a fertility specialist that couples can plan the sex of their child with an 80% accuracy rate by where the man ejaculates in the vagina. I remember the *occasion* that led to chu and what the doctor said was right on the money. i'll try to find the passage and post it. give me ten minutes.

Okay, found it. This is from a book by Niels H. Lauersen, m.d, ph.d and in his chapter on sex and your baby's sex, it says (kind of long so bear with me):

"In addition to affecting fertilization, some research suggests that how you make love can also influence the sex of the child you create. This is said to be due to differences in the genes carried by sperm. Sperm is divided into two types, those that carry the genes for a female child and those that carry genes for a male child.

MALE SPERM ARE SAID TO BE
*fast moving
*good swimmers
*small
*easily affected by acidic vaginal secretions
*short lived

FEMALE SPERM ARE SAID TO BE
*slow moving
*large and hardy
*able to withstand acidic environments
*able to survive longer in the female body

According to the sex selction theory, certain sexual positions, along with the depth of penetration and when in relation to ovulation you make love, can be used to encourage fertilization with either male or female sperm. While there is no guarantee that sex selection will work, many of my patients have used the following techniques to plan their families with incredible (80% +) accuracy.

If you want a baby girl:
*shallow pentration in the missionary position will allow your partner to deposit sperm at the mouth of your cervix. This is said to favor the slower-moving female sperm.
*avoid orgasm. this will help keep your vaginal environment highly acidic which kill of male sperm before they reach your fallopian tube. to increase the acidity of your vagina even more use a vinegar and water douche directly preceding intercourse... (that's just some of it, I got sick of typing Laughing )

If you want a baby boy
Use deep penetration, and the rear-entry position, which will allow your partner to deposit sperm above the neck of your cervix, for fast entry into your uterus. Here the environment is more alkaline making it easier for male sperm to survive.
*try to achieve orgasm at the same time that your partner is ejaculating. This will also help create a more alkaline vaginal environment.
*your partner should avoid masturbation for four to five days, and you should both avoid intercourse until your day of ovulation. this will help ensure the highest possible sperm count and, toghether with the other factors, give the advantage to the fast-swimming male sperm.

I left some things out but you get the main idea and a few pointers with this.

That's what I'm saying! Laughing I figured it lined up with what happened for chu so if i'm going to ttc why not actually put the theory to use this time. Anything that helps nudge the odds even a tiny bit in my favor is a godsend! I wonder how many other people this is true for?

Definately, ya know? What could it hurt. I'd probably be in bed reading the instructions when it comes time to try for a boy LOL. "Ok, put your leg here...mine there, and ooops, nope that doesn't go there....yup, there ya go!"

it is supposed to have a good accuracy rate but don't put your money on it.
0liver was conceived in the missionary position and we did the deed 5 days before I actually fell pregnant.
(my ovulation dates were dead regular then *sigh* and it all matched perfectly with the gestational age of the baby, etc)

good luck hun =)
