Q: White Tongue

Hello,
I noticed that I, in comparison to everyone i know, have a lot of white stuff on my tongue. It usually cannot be brushed off with a toothbrush. I brush my teeth and use listerine on a daily basis. I have heard of tongue scrapers, but wouldn't it be wiser to know why it is there in the first place? I am curious as to where it comes from, and how to stop it from coming.

Thanks,
Greg

I work in a dental office and it is coming from your stomach and the things you eat.

Extremely eHealthy
.another scenario is oral thrush. .it is a for of fungus in the mouth. .alot of smaller children get it. .have you spoken to your doctor about it to see if it is an issue? Sometime low iron can cause a change in the color of your tongue as well.

Any idea what foods cause it? In a normal day I eat cereal (cheerios), fruits (bananas,strawberries,grapes,etc.. varies from day to day) a chicken (wrap or sandwhich) and plenty of water. For dinner, plenty of salad (and or vegetables), fish, and a side of rice/potatoes?

Its a fairly typical diet so I am not sure what causes it.

I have those too. I've read they're sulfur compunds which really smells bad. What I do is I put some baking soda on my toothbrush and apply it on my tongue and do a pulling stroke while washing the toothbrush once in a while. I think it works better than toungue scrapers. You should'nt hesitate cleaning that white stuff off, a healthy toungue is usually pinkish.

what causes this white tongue....???
Is baking soda the only way to get rid of it? Or is diet the way to go?

Any other successes out there?
