Q: Does astigmatism get worse with age?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 5th, 2007
Just wanted to know if astigmatism gets worse with age? It seems that every year I go get my eyes checked, they increase the cylinder another power. It started at -0.25, then -.50, last year it was -.75, and I think it's about to change again because once again I'm getting headaches. What could be going on?

Astigmatism is an eye refractory anomaly. Its etiology, or cause, is unknown. Astigmatism could be congenital or acquired. Like myopia (another refractory anomaly), astigmatism can progress over time, but not necessarily. You can consult your ophthalmologist for more information and for diagnostic examinations.
