Q: Anisocoria: uneven dilation of eye pupils
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 1st, 2007
I have on dilated pupil and one regular size. The dilated one began at around the size of a marble,.but had slowly decrease and is now back to normal size. I tried to schedule an appointment with my optometrist but sadly he was on vacation. My contact had been bothering me in that eye and as soon as I noticed I removed it. Is this something to be concerned with?

Unequal or imbalanced size between the pupils of the eye is called "anisocoria". It seems that you took the right right steps when you removed the contact lens because it bothered you, but it doesn’t seem likely that a contact lens can cause anosocoria. Anisocoria can be due to a neurological disorder so you should probably consult both an ophthalmologist and a neurologist. A CT-scan of the head will be probably requested.
