My name is Mellisa Dressler and I’m 25 years old. I had a Laporscopic Guided Vaginal Hysterectomy on 3/14/07. They removed my cervix and Uterus. On 3/16/07 I was discharged from the hospital and was feeling great. On 3/18/07 I was realy dizzy, nauaeaus, and had horrible shoulder pain. My husband took me to ER where my blood pressure was dangerously low. They did a Cat Scan and found a quart of blood in my stomach. I had another surgery to drain over a litter of blood and to repatch a incision that was seeping. I also had to have two blood transfusions. I’m home now, but I still feel very sick. Has this happen to anyone else? I have been developing new symptoms, but at this point I have no idea how I should be feeling. Any help would be appreciated.

Mellissa...concerning the Bleeding After Hysterectomy
Hi there.
I had the same type of hysterectomy recently. I am also having trouble with bleeding. I went in for a two week check-up and all seemed well. Then I started bleeding. I've been in again and was told everything is fine, but now I seem to be bleeding even more. I don't want to go in over and over and be looked at as some hypochondriac or something but I am concerned. I am a teacher and school starts soon and I'm feeling really drained and I'm worried about the bleeding.
I hope everything gets better now for you. Thanks for sharing. Your post made me realize that I'm not crazy here...this really can happen.

I too just had a vaginal hysterectomy. I didn't even make it out of recovery when my pulse went sky high and my BP dropped so low. They went back in and I had internal bleeding. They fixed it and I got to come home 2 days later. I have a 8 inch bikini line cut that hurts like crazy, I also had to get 4 units of blood. How long am I going to feel like total crap??

Hi montessosi mom,
I had one at age 38 over 18 months ago. I felt like crap for a very long time. Doctors say 6 to 8 weeks to heal. BS. My scar is 7 1/2 in long bikini cut. Driving still is painful at the incision site. It took 9 months before I could begin to stretch and low impact work outs. It took over 1 year to be able to roll in bed or lay on my stomach for a few minutes. You'll find out some more interesting facts the doctor never told you. Take care, cry and get it out of your system. This is a total life change in more than one ways.

Vaginal spotting after having vaginal hysto 2 yrs ago.
I had a vaginal hysto 2yrs ago,but I have notice off and on at times that I have a spotting issue and sometimes a little more than just a spot or two. I am not sure if that is normal to see spotting off & on at times after having a hysto 2yrs ago.

No, spotting is not normal two years after a Hysterectomy....You may have a raw area and need cauterizing...Either way this should be checked out with the person who performed this surgery....Take care...

Had a LAVH on 7/22/10, then on 7/31/2010 I began hemorrhaging, no trauma, was laying on the couch, resting, just started gushing bright red blood. Went to the ER and they were clueless, had no idea what caused the hemorrhage, but with elevation, saline, and some other meds it stopped on its own.

Went and saw my Dr today, she checked and said all looks good, and not to worry that sometimes a clot can bleed out, but this was NOT a clot, this was a HUGE amount of blood, to the point where I passed out, lips turned blue, and started convulsing before the ambulance showed up. The blood was not a gush to release trapped blood, it was actively pulsing out as if in rhythm with my heartbeat.

What is really scary is that before this happened I was feeling great, no pain, no fatigue, no symptoms that anything was wrong. Now I am paranoid to even move for fear it might happen again. Any other ideas about what could have caused the hemorrhage?

bleeding after hyst
I am 28yrs, had my hist on 15july2010, i had alot of discomfort on my bladder as it felt to fill even without consuming much fluids,on 26july2010 i started spotting, it was about 2 table spoons a day but on 30july2010 it was more, i took a relaxing bath coz i was told that i'm to active, (walking a bit,not more that 100m a day)a days bed rest would help, and it was less the next morning,on sunday the 01aug2010 i had a fright, all went well through the day, went to town to get some groceries, i picked up nothing and carried nothing, hubby did everything, got home i was only rinsing some dished, made coffee and sitting on the bed folding clothes, hubby did the washing and put everything on the bed, at 20h00 i went to get ready for bed,put on new pad and went to bed, 23h45 i woke up cause i felt wetness,my pad over flowed,my bed was full blood and i had a palm sized clot(looked like liver) came out,we rushed to hospital,i was admitted for observation, my hb 15 bp 114/82 and i felt good, not dizzy or anything, dr(OB GYNEA) check with sonar i had no internal bleeding, no torn stitches, my dr told me that when u have surgery u get some kind of organ-wash, sometimes liquid and blood can be left behind, and because you have alot of swelling the blood and liquid cant all come out instantly, so with time u have spotting or bleeding in the first six weeks after surgery, the clot i experienced was to disolve and come down with time instead it came down that big, which is not bad because it was not bright red(live blood) as long as bleeding is litte not more than a tea cup a day and its brownish/pinkish, even little pieces/particles not bright red is also ok, i am out of hospital now, still have a little bleeding but nothing to be concern about. my dr(OB GYNEA) told me not to stop walking or little chores like coffee making, just a little activity is good, but no driving, stairs and long walks, to take a wee when bladder feels full not to hold it,i'll keep u updated, zazu

Is it common 2 bleed internaly and externaly after histerectomy?
I am 42 yrs old had a vaginal histerectomy on oct. 27'2010 at 9:30 am... out by 12:30 pm... several hrs after i started having sever pain in chest couldnt breath and an incredable earge to urinate. but having a cathader n vaginal packing they said was norman.. around 6pm my bp and o2 levels started droping n the nurses noticed i wasent producing urin. they called dr in and lab results . by the time they got blood results back from lab, they new it wasent a bloodclot in my chest, i was bleeding internaly. rushed into or and cut from hip 2 hip they found a blood vesle that had spasemed in 1st surgery n started bleeding. i am a small woman weing 127lbs exercise every day n i recieved 5.5 unitsof blood nearly died. spent 3 days in icu 8 days total stay in hosp. when released went home rested everyday like drv said. now knowing i almost died i was extreamly careful. no lifting nothing at all. well 3.5 weeks later woke up ran 2 bathroom loosing blood clots size of my fist. rushed 2 er n was instly admitted. er dr packed my vagina w gause n on bed rest 3 days. took pking out n no bleeding. wed morning woke up went to bathroom n started loosing blood everywhere. was rushed into er givin 2 more units of blood and they found that my insision internaly was wide open as if never stiched up. dr then resewed me with stronger sewtures n i spent a total of 6 days in hospital.. it is now exactly 2 weeks today from last surgery, 6 weeks from 1'st n 2ed surgery n im finaly feeling better. my advice to those of any concern is if u have any more than a pink discharge GET CHECKED!!! i read on internet its common 2 spot but if red blood run to er or doctor u could b introuble. so not only i have a vaginal hysterectomy, i blead internal with abdominal inscision, and i hemeredaged externaly and ended up having another vagional surgery. this is the worst thing that can happen, protect yourself, listen 2 your body.. take it easy!

10 years later
I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 20 years old. I woke up on the operaiting table when he was removing my right overy. They found 3 days after surgery I had internal bleeding. I had allot of blood in my belly. Like I was 8 months pregnant with blood! And they gave me 5 units of blood. And Iron. No surgery!
I am now almost 30. Its been ten years. Since then I have severe abdomanal pain and back pain. And Ive never been taken seriuosly by my doctors. Untill I went to the ER the other night and they found a coarse calcification on right where my right overy used to be! Any comment would be appreciated.

Hi SarahMine81 and welcome to ehealth: It is possible that these are adhesions from your surgery...With this taking place so long ago only your physician could answer this question...If you are vaginally bleeding you should have this checked out...Take care...
