She like sleeps fine at night , gets normal sleep, and takes a nap during the day when her kids are asleep but sometimes from what she has told me she will be doing something and just like fall asleep like once she was downstairs folding clothes and just like fell asleep out of nowhere, then woke up like what happened. Another time she was in the shower, she sits in the floor of the shower with the water really hot for the steam. She can fall asleep just sitting on the phone or at the computer desk. Sometimes she does stuff and doesnt remember doing it etc. I told her she should see a dr because once she almost fell asleep driving to my house. But she said she would look like an fool going to the dr. But do you think she has some sort of sleep disorder or what?

If your friend describes her symptoms the way you did, no doctor worth using would just dismiss it. Your friend may get a normal amount of sleep, but if she has sleep apnea, the quality of her sleep may be greatly diminished. Sleep apnea is the condition in which breathing stops repeatedly during sleep for many seconds at a time, disrupting the quality of the sleep. Falling asleep uncontrollably during waking hours is known to be a symptom of sleep apnea. There are many other very serious, even life-threatening, consequences of long-term sleep apnea. In most cases, it is eminently treatable. Your friend needs to see her doctor. More information about sleep apnea can be found in the new book The Perils of Sleep Apnea - an Undiagnosed Epidemic. It's available for less that 10 bucks at amazon.com - search for apnea, epidemic.

Looks like narcolepsy to me...

Or could be serious sleep deprivation due to apnea, as painfree said.

She HAS to go see a doctor before she gets herself in an accident.
